The swclent graduating with a Bachelor of Art~ in Christian Education mav be able en take advantage of accelerated I\ laster of Arts or Master of Divinity programs offered at Talbot School of Theol oµ;y. Several specializations are offered with the M.A. degree. Pre requisite: 302. 420 Special Topics in Chemistry (3) Short subjects in such areas as the chem ica l literature. va rious instrumenta l methods. pol yme rs , organometallics and indu st ri al chemistry. Prerequisite: depart mental approval. 422 A,B laboratory in Bio chemistry (1, 1) A laboratory course to accompany Biology 411 , 412 (Chemistry 411 , 412). All specialization courses are subject to departmental approval. Students may c hoose a µ;eneral B.A. in Christian Education Min istries or declare an area of spe c iali zation. If a general deµ;ree is souµ;ht , the swdent ma y choose elective courses from across the U niversit y to satisfy the total number of units needed for grad uation, with the approval of the student 's academic advisor. If the swdent chooses to identify a spec ia li zat ion , evidence of th at focus should come through a list of 10 units of specialization coursework approved in consulta tion with the scudent ' s advisor. Elementary Teaching Credential Program (60 units) The C hristi a n Education l'vlinistries/ t eac hing emphasis majors musr complete a core of 60 units , of which 24 must be upper division and include: 1.'iO. 2.'i 1, 260, 261. 371. .'\ 72 , .'\80, .'\82; Educat ion 300. 330 , 420, 4.'\0, 440, and 442. Bible .'\20 must be taken as the Bible elective. Education 440 may be taken before µ;raduation in lieu of CE 461 and 462. Certain specific general education comses are also required which include: l'svchology 200 and Physical Education 201. This option combines the C.E. major core with liberal stud ies courses. This spec iali zat io n req uires ARTS 306, ENGL 380, MATH 117, 118. and MUSC 3 10 for credenti al requirements. Stu dent s must pass the general knowledge section of the National Teachers Examinarion (NTE) prior to student teaching. The scudent must co nsulr with the Departments of Christian Educa tion and Education for specifics.
PURPOSE
The C hristian Education Ministries major is designed to prepare its grad uates for profes s ion a l ministries in church and parachurch agencies and to pro vide foundation for seminary or other grad uate education.
OBJECTIVES
At the completion of this major. swdents will ha ve: real ized their identity in relation to their position in C hrist and their spiriwal gifts and abilities related to Christian ministries: demon strated the essential knowledge and skills to study the Scripwres induct ivel y and to communicate biblical trurhs effect ivel v: escab- 1ished a basic philosophy of Christi an ed ucation which incor porares the bibli ca l concepts of disciple s hip a nd leadership: demonstrated their ability to he sensitive to others as persons . understanding how people func tion in both indi vidual and group learning experiences; developed and demonstrated their ability to function successfu ll y in teaching roles and/or in leaders hip ro les.
