PT 703 The Church and Society (3) A study of biblical ethi cs and the role the local church plays in the commu- nity. Special attention will be given to major social problems such as sanctity of life, chemical abuse, domestic violence, social ill s, and the po li tica l process. PT 706 Personal Foundations of Ministry (2) Focused on the importance of self- understanding for spiritual and emo- tional well-being as well as effective minisuy to hurting people , an investi- gation of the impact of personal and fam ily histo1y on theo logical outlook, emotio nal congrue nce, relational att ractio ns and moral decisions . PT 707 Foundations of Pastoral Care & Counseling (2) The development of relationship skills as a foundation for helping mi nisu-ies, and the se tting of limi t.s of abili ty as a foundat ion for referrals. Second ly, exploration of a short-te rm structure model of pastoral counseling. COURSES PT 510 Evangelism and Follow-Up (3) The biblical principles and practice of evangel ism and discipleship. The class will seek to develop the skill s of per- sonal e1,dngelism, determine strategi es for a discipleship ministry, and explore the theOI)' and practice of small group ministries. Required of M.Div., and M.A (B/ T.S. emphasis) student.s. PT 591 Introduction to Field Education (1) hiu-oduction into the practical element.s of minisuy. Emphasis will be placed on career planning, field experience and preparation for Field Education lntern- sh ip in the M.Div. program. Required of M.Div. student.s. Lab fee: $40. Special attention wi ll be give n to providing leadersh ip in worship, music, ordinances, wedd ings, funerals, and hospital and home visita- tion. The priority and care of ministe- rial staff fami li es will be addressed as well as commun ity relations. Required of M.Div. (Pastoral and Gen- eral Ministri es, Christian Education). PT 604 Pastoral Care & Ch,aplaincy (3) Study of mini st ry to the physically, emo tionally or relationally sick, crisis minisuy, and ministry Lo the dying and bereaved. The spec ial nature and demands of hospi tal and milita1y chap- laincy will also be studied. Required of M.Div. PC.C and M.A P.C.C PT 609-610 Sermon Preparation (3, 3) Aconsideration of the fundamentals of speech as they relate to the pu lpit min- istry. A study of the techn iques and fundamentals of sermon construction and persuasive delive1y of expository sermons. PT 609 is prerequisite to PT
