GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Req uireme nts for the degree include the successful completion of 32-36 semester units of prescribed and elective course work and pass ing a wr itten comprehensive examin ati on over the major fi elds of study. Amini- mum of 24 of the uni ts must be com- pleted at Biola. A max imum of six units or 400 level course work may be used as electives toward the degree. Prior approval is required. Thirty-two semester units are requ ired if a pro- ject or thesis is completed; otherwise 36 units are required. A graduation petition must be filed one year prior to graduation with the grad uatio n counse lor in the Registrar's Office. Upon completion of the Master of Arts degree in Education, it is intended that the candidate understand the the- Oiy and practice of the Christian philos- ophy of education and other fo unda- tional areas; have a thorough knowledge of curriculum design and instructional procedures and have practi ced these in a school setting; and have engaged in research relating to the subject in which he in tructs, resulting in a proj ect designed to improve his competence in the fi eld . This degree is current ly offered only in conju nction wi th the Research Institute for Christian Educa- tion (R. l.C.E.) located in Hong Kong. This program is designed to strengthen the capabi lities of teachers. It pro1~des a study of foundations, cur- riculum and instruction and the results of research - all designed to improve teaching and learning. The program combin es theo1y with prac ti ce th rough- out, us ing field experience with the course work culm inating in a project. It seeks to in teg rate Ch ri st ian truth through all of th e courses and field experiences. Courses in Bible and the- ology arc required of those who lack preparation in those areas. This program is des igned to be taken on a pan-time basis so t.haL it wi ll be ava ilable to those who are employed full-time. Courses are offered in late afternoon and early even ing both dur- ing the school year and in summer ses- sions. The program can be completed in two fu ll years or fou r summers. A maximum of eight uni ts of elec ti ves and / or transfer credit may be accepted. The program must be com- pleted within five years. Nine.uni LI of course load is considered full-time sta- tus for all graduate students. Aprofessional clear credential for teaching may be earned as part of a M.A. program. SPECIAL NOTICE At the present time , no new appli- ca tions for admission and enrollment in the Master of Arts in Education degree program are being accepted.
