DM 822 Family Life Education (6) Acourse designed to lead the student through a biblical, socio logical and educational inves tigation of fami ly life education. DM 828 Pastoral Care and Counseling Skills (6) A course designed to help the pastor sharpen ski ll s in pastora l care and counseling. The student will learn and practice a model of helping whi ch incorporates techniques and approaches of the behavioral sciences as well as biblical principles. The stu­ dent will be exposed to live counsel­ ing sessions , extensive counsel ing practice and professionals in practice. (Additional work will be expected out­ side of class hours during the course.) DM 829 The Pastor as a Crisis Counselor (6) Student wi ll develop skills to help individuals confronti ng typical crises such as the birth of a child, illness, the loss of a job, marital conflict, career adjustment, bereavement, pre-marital pregnancy, re tirement and termina l disease. Attention given to prevention of stress in predictable developmental crises as we ll as recovery management following a crisis. A combination of cl inical exposure, case study and stu­ dent experience used in this seminar. DM 830 Administrative Leadership in the Local Church (6) A course designed to lead swdent through a biblical, organizational and psychological understanding of lead­ ershi p, motivation, planning, manag­ ing confl icts, worker training, evalua­ tion , change principles and organiza­ tional development. Participants have the opportunity to examine their lead­ ership style an d to develop sty les through group experiences and case stud ies that wi ll make them more effective leade rs. DM 833 Discipleship in the Local Church (6) An in-depth examination of the bibli­ cal principles, history and methodol­ ogy of discipleship. The course will emph asize Lh e practical concern of how to develop an ongoing disciple­ ship program in the local ministry. DM 834 Advanced Church Growth (6) An in-depth look at cross-cu ltural issues facing ch urches in the U.S.A. Emphasis will be pl aced on under­ standi ng the mosa ic of cu lture both within the typical Anglo churches and

Pastors who have distinguished themselves as thoughtful practitioners of the art serve as resource leaders. DM 803 Pre-marital and Marital Counseling (6) Acourse designed to equip the pastor in the principles of pre-marital coun­ seling. Emphasis given to the practical aspects of structuring and conducting a compl ete pre-marital preparation program within tJ1 e local church. Spe­ cific techniques for mari tal counseling to be presented, discussed and demon­ strated throughout the duration of th is course. Prerequisite: training in the use of the Taylor:Johnson Tempera­ ment Analysis. (Concurrent with this course, tnining in the use of the Tay­ lor:John son Temperament Analysis is

Attention given to two areas: l ) a sur­ vey of biblical ma te ri als on the natu re and importance of worship for the people of Cod; and 2) a survey of con­ temporary literature on worship in the church. A foundation provided for the development of a biblical theol­ ogy/ philosophy for worship in today's churches and for fundamental discus­ sion of the practical aspects of both planning and executi ng meaningful services of worship. DM 814 Contemporary Issues in Marriage and Family Ministries (6) A course designed to broaden and deepen the pastoral understanding of Christian marriage in the contempo­ rary world. Emphasis on the sociology of marriage as an institution, the psy­ chology of intimate relationships, and the nature of love and sexuali ty. Hus­ band-wife roles studied in the light of Scripture and the movement toward egalitarian marriage. Attention given to the problems of divorce and remar­ riage, single parent, blended family and other current issues. DM 815 Theological and Psychological Foundations for Parenting (6) Development of a theologically consis­ tent and psyc hologically healthy understanding of the process of ch ild rearing. Includes a critical review, both theolog ica lly and psychologi­ ca ll y, of a num ber of cur re nt approaches to parenting. Class mem­ bers responsible to l) formu late a comprehens ive program of parent education for a local church, or 2) develop and conduct a parent educa­ tion seminar or workshop. DM 817 Biblical Principles of Church Renewal (6) An examination of biblical principles for church life with the aim of spiritual and mission renewal. Course emphases will center on the pastor's style of lead­ ership, invo lvement and training of lay leaders, cong regationa l creat ivity, impacting the communi ty, and preach­ ing style and con tent, plus the pastor's and congrega tion's spiritual life.

DM 824 The Pastor's Spiritual and Emotional Health (6) A course designed to examined the hazards of the ministry as they pertain Lo the mental and spiritual health of the pastor. The pastor ass isted in identifying the area of potential per­ sonal weakness and given resources for dealing with these problems. Attention given to aspects of the min­ ister's ro le conflic ts in his personal li fe , fam ily life and ministry. Problem areas such as anger, depress ion, assertiveness, leadership and relation­ ships will be explo red . Techn iques for self-modifyin g behavio r to grow spirituallyand emotionally presented. DM 825 Small Groups; An Expression of the Body of Christ (6) A course focusi ng on birth, care and development of bibli cal small groups as they function in the life of the local church. Philosophy of sma ll group ministry explored with strategies for beginn ing groups and maintaining them in the local church. Participants will learn how to Lrain lay leaders, how small groups function effectively and wi ll be able to set up a small group program in their ministry. DM 826 Dynamics of Church Growth (6) A course designed to understand sci­ entific principles developed to date in the fie ld of church growt h, to cover relevant contemporary literature on the subject and to acquire the basic ski ll s necessary for diagnosing the health of the local church and design­ ing programs fo r the future growth. DM 811 Interpersonal Relationships in the Church (6) Abiblical and practical examination of what believers ought to do wi th and for each other in the local church.
