ADMISSION REGISTRATION AND GRADUAT ION REQUIREMENTS

A student who has attended Biola University and has dropped out for one semester or longer wi ll be required to fil e an application for re-admission ($15 fee). A pastor's reference will be required if the student's leave of absence exceeds two years. ADMISSION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND RESIDENT ALIENS RE-ADMISSION English Proficiency It is essential that students fromother countries be able to understand lectures in Engl ish and also be able to express their thoughts cl early in both written and spoken English. Admi ssion lo the University is based upon the understanding th at students eith er already have or are act ive ly making progress in these skills. In order that the applicant's profi­ ciency in English may be determined, tJ1e applicant must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) as admin­ istered by the Educational Testing Service at the nearest over 0 seas examination cen ter. The minimum score for admission is a total of 500 for the undergraduate student and 550 (with a score of 55 or above for each of the three test sections) fo r the graduate student. (TESOL minors musl have a score of 550, and Ed .D. students at Talbot must have a score of 575 and 55+. Con tact department.) However, all international stu­ dents without TOEFL scores can enter into tJ1e Biola degree program of their choice if they have mel all the other require­ ments for admission LOtJiaL degree program through the suc­ cessful completion of the Biola English Language Studies Pro­ gram (ELSP). Upon admission to Biola 1vithout the TOEFL exam, the student is required to take the Biola English Place­ ment Exam (BEPE) which is equivalent to the TOEFL, but is more comprehensive. According to the results of the Lest, stu­ dents will take English classes at their level before starting their academic courses. Non-native English speaking students applyi ng to Talbot's master of tJ1eology (Th.M. ) programmust score a minimum 500 on the TOEFL in order to be accepted inlo the Th.M. program tJirough the Biola University English Language Studies Program (ELSP). TOEFL scores must be pro1~ded before acceptance eval uation. For those students who have passed the TOEFL exam, an Engli sh Diagnostic Test at the University wi ll be given to de termine whi ch course(s) (English 102, 103, 105, 107 or 109), if any, th ey musl take. The course(s) must be taken dur ing the student 's first semester in residence and every semester unti l the student has successfull y passed the English Placement Tes t. There will be a late make-up fee of $15 when placement exams are nol taken on the dates indicated in the student 's acceptance ieller. Si nce admission to the University is based on the under­ standing that the student will successfully complete the ESL sequence, sllldents wi ll not be al lowed to graduate or continue at Biola if they do not complete their ESL requirement. A"pass­ ing" score on the English Placement Test must be achieved before taking English 110 A or B or before credit from other schools can be granted. English 110 Aand Bmust be taken fo l­ lowing satisfactory completion of the above requirements.

Admission Lo Biola Un iversity is on a selective basis and only those are admitted who are most likely to profit from Biola Universi ty's educational program and its disti ncti vely Christian emphasis. Because it is the purpose of Biola Uni­ versity to train Christian young people, the appli cant should have been a Christian for at least one year. Biola University has a stronglyevange lical Christian commit­ ment and requires that to be accepted, the applicant must be an evangelical believer. However, Biola does nol discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disabi li ty in the admission of students, employment, and the educational programs or activities it conducts. The University also prohibits sexual harassment. Inquiries regarding this nondiscrimination poli cy and the policy prohibiting sexual harassment may be directed to the Office of tJ1e Dean of Student Affairs in tJ1e Stu­ dent Services Building for furtJ1er information and procedures. Students who are interested in attending Biola Unive rsity should request appli cation forms from tJ1 e offi ce of admis­ sions. Because enrollmen t is limited and admission is on a selec ti ve basis, appli cations should be made as early as possi­ ble. Decisions are made onlyon completed applications. Visits to the campus are encouraged. It is advi sable to wr ite or phone in advance Lo arrange an appointment. Each semester, Biola hosts visitation weekends (Un iversity Days, Bi ola Bound, and Focus Days) that help acquaint prospective students with the programs on campus. The dates fo r these days are listed on the academic calendar. Ad-mission lo the University does not guarantee admission lo the lmsiness administration, education, music, nursing and f1syclwlogy programs, nor lo on-campus housing. Application fomis for these

ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT Applicants Applicants who have been granted acceptance are required to remit an enrollment deposit. The deposit is non-refundabl e if the student does not enroll in the tenn for which tJ1ey applied. Deposits will not be held over if there is a lapse in enrollment. Accep\ed applicants, whetJ1er or nol tJ1ey are preregistered, must infonn Biola ofanychange in their plans regarding enrollment. Enrolled Students When enrolled students officially withdraw, their enroll­ ment deposit wi ll be applied to any balance owed al tJ1e lime of departure, or will be refunded if their account is paid in full. As a student continues hi s enrollment at Bi ola, the enrollment deposit is retained as a continuing preregistra­ tion deposit to assure the enrolled student of a place in the student body. Students who discontinue their enrollment at Biola and fail to officially withdraw at the Registrar's Office (by December 31 fo r the spring semester, or byJuly 31 for the fall semester) will forfeit the enrollment deposit.
