FACULTY Professors: Curti s, Finley, Wilkins Associate Professors: Arnold , Russell Assistant Professor: Rh ee Greek The purpose of these courses is to introduce studen ts to th e Greek language in order to enhan ce their personal understanding of th e New Testament and to prepare those who desire to pursue grad uate biblical studi es . The plan is to provide stu­ dents wit h tools wh ich will enab le them to ut ili ze the Greek text in fu ture study, interpretation, and expo­ siti on of the Word of God. Upon completi on of 12 units of Greek, it is intended that the student's proficiency in the Greek language will enable him/ her to read and translate a Greek text with accuracy using a stan­ dard lexicon and grammar; to explain the signi fi cance of tenses, cases and important grammatical structures; to exegete a biblical text accurately; and to undertake individual research in biblical and exua-bibli cal Greek. The courses Greek 101, 102,201 , and 202 will fulfill the general education for­

403 Hellenistic Greek (3) Readings from the Jewish, patristic and pagan writers of the Hellenistic period, in cl uding the Septuagi nt, with atten­ tion to li tera1y analysis and comparison with relevant biblical authors. Oppor­ tunity may be given to use the GRAM­ CORD and Ibycus computer projects. Prerequi si te: 202 or equivalent. 405 Advanced New Testament Textual Criticism (3) A survey of Lhe materials, histOI)' and theories of New Testament tex tu al cr iti cism. Prereq ui sites: BBST 20 1 and two yea rs of Greek. 407 Advanced Greek Grammar (3) An advanced study of syntax focusi ng on nuan ces of grammar and style. To facilitate this study, in addition to Lh e use of adva nced grammar, spec ial swdies and ar ticles, extensive use is made of examples drawn from bibli cal and extra biblical literature. Prerequi­ site: 304 and 305. 480 Directed Research (1-3) Indi vi dual research and wr iti ng for advanced studen ts by special arrange­ ment. Study may include concentra­ tion in New Testament literatu1 e, hi s­ tory, tex tual critic ism, specia li zed grammatical or lexical projects, intro­ ducto ry matters, or New Testament theology. Prerequisite: 202 and at least six units of upper divi sion Greek and / or consen l. May be repeated with differenL content. Hebrew 101 , 102 Elementary Hebrew Grammar (3,3) Introduct ion to the language of the Hebrew Bible: morphology, syntax, as we ll as reading and Lranslation of bib­ li cal texts. 201, 202 Intermediate Hebrew Grammar (3,3) Adva nced grammar and syntax wi th emphas is upon rapid reading as well as the development of exeget ical skill s. Prerequisite: I02.

465 Integration Seminar (3) Relates Christian conviction to academic inqui1y. May focus on a specific area or include a vaiiety of topics. Often team­ taught and cross-listed between depart­ ments. Usuallyinvolves a major research paper/ project and class presentation . May be repeated with different content for a max imum of six units counted toward graduation. Prerequisites: IOI , 110, 120, 12] , 200,251,304. 470 Biblical Studies Research Seminar (3) Methods of research in Bibl ical Studies. ln-<lepth studyof issues culminating in a research paper. Req uired of Bible majors. Prerequisites: 101 , 110, 120, 121 , 200,251,304, 480 Directed Research (1-3) Guided independent reading, research , problem-solving and preparation of a fonnal paper or project done in consul­ tation witl1 a selected professor. May be repeated with differen t content for a combined total of six units of 480 and 490 coumed toward graduation. Prereq­ uisites: 101 , 110, 120, 121,200,251 ,304. 490 Practicum (1-3) Supen~sed expe1ience in teaching bibli­ cal studies. Includes course preparation, observation and evalua ti on . Prerequi­ sites: 101 , 110, 120,12 1,200 ,251,304. 455 Pauline Theology - Romans (3) Studyof Paul's theology and worldvi ew as contained in the book of Romans, \vith special attention given to introduc­ tory and historical matters. Prerequi­ sites: 101 , 110, 120, 121, 200,25 1,304 . 458 Theology of Mission (3) Study of God 's redemptive acts in Scripture in behalf of mankind , with application to the mission of the chu rch today. Translation of selected por­ tions of the New Testament, 11~th exten­ sive translation of a selected NewTesta­ ment book in the second semester. 201, 202 Intermediate Greek Grammar and Exegesis (3 ,3) Acomprehensive surveyof New Testa­ ment Greek grammar and vocabula1y wh ich builds upon the fir st year of study. In troduction to textual criti­ cism and exegetical methodology whi ch will aid students in interpreting the New Testament. Reading in se lected portions of the New Testa­ ment. Prerequisi te: 102 or equivalen t. 304 , 305 Studies in Biblical Greek (1-4, 1-4) Exegesis of biblical Greek texts for adva nced students, with attention to translation, grammar, backgrounds, interpretation , and problems or analy­ sis. Study may include one or more portions of New Testament literature. Prerequisite: 202 and/ or consent. May be repeated \vith different con tent.
