Specific requirements are listed under "general education require­ mnzts "for the bachelor ofmts degree. All specialization courses are sub­ ject to departmental approva l. The speciali za tion areas offered are: Elementary Teaching Credential Program The Christian educa tion/ teachi ng emphasi majors must complete a core of 55 uni LS, of which 24 must be upper division an d include: 150, 25 1, 260, 26 1, 37 l , 372, 380, 382; Education 300, 330, 420, 430, 440, and 442. Bible 320 must be taken as the Bible elective. Education 440 maybe taken before graduation in lieu of CE 461 and 462. Ce rtain spec ific general education courses are also required which include: Psychology 200, Physical Education 201, and Math 111. Thi s opt ion comb in es the C.E . major core with liberal studies courses. This specialization requires more uni LS th an the others do but some uni t5 in the C.E. core are substituted for cre­ dential requirements. StudenLS must pass the general knowledge section of the National Teachers Examina ti on (NIE) prior to student teachi ng. The student must consu lt with the Depart­ men ts of Chr ist ian Education and Education for specifi cs. Those interested in this teaching creden­ tial slumld be advised that all single subject leaching credential /1rograms areundergoing revision. Consult with the Education depa,t­ ment for details on c1ment /Hograms. Children Vocational opportunities with this option include children's director or mini ste r in a local church, a staff member with organizations that minis­ ter to children in the United States or on a mission fi eld, a writer of materi­ als for use with child ren. Youth Vocational opportunities for youth specialization would include a local church youtJ1 director or minister, a club director for youth parachurch agencies, a youth camp director, a Ch1istian educa­ tion director in a church tJ1at emphasizes youth or an assistant or associate pastor witJ1 responsibilities for youth .

Vocational opportun ities with this option include service on a foreign mi ssion fi eld or service in one of the manysubcultures in the United States. Diversified This option is for those who wish to design a specialization unique to their interests, such as church-related camping, counseling, communica tion, business, musi c, computer science, etc. Pre-Seminary in Christian Education lf a student plans to pursue gradu­ ate work in Christian education, tJ1ere are specialization courses appropriate to a broader foundation in specified areas. Pre-Seminary in Family Ministries This speciali zation is designed to prepare the student for graduate work in marriage and fami lyministri es. Pre-Seminary in Pastoral Ministry Thi s spec iali zation provid es a strong foundation in Christian educa­ tion upon wh ich to build a well­ rounded pas toral ministry. Note: Students wishing lo do graduate work in the field of Cluistian education may wish to take advantage of the Master ofAits /1rogram offered al Talbot School of 17ieology. Tlie undergraduate an,/ graduate programs have been designed to minimize (J(}e,lap and to maximize continued development and gmwth of the student in thefield. There are four specializations designed for students who wish lo plan for graduate wmk at Tal­ bot School of 17ieology. Onespecialization is designed for llie M.A. in Ch1istian educa­ tion at. Talbot School of Theology, anothei· is tlie M.Div. degree, and tlie third is the M.A. with an em/1has is in youth ministry . MINOR A Ch,istian Education Minor requires the comple tion of 18 uni LS including tJ1e following courses: 2.52, 261 and one of the age level courses (372,373, 374). Nine additional upper di vision units are also required wh ich maybe selected by the student from any C.E. depart­ mental offeri ngs. Bible 320 must be taken as the Bible elective. DEGREE PROGRAM A Bachelor of Arls degree in Chiistian Education is offered upon completion of the university baccalaureate and major requirements. The Chri stian education major requires the comple­ tion of a core of 37 uni LS, 24 of which must be upper division and include: 150,251 , 252, 260,261,371,380, 382, 415, 423, 461, 462 and one of the fol­ lowing: 372, 373, 374. Bible 320 must be taken as the Bible elective. ln addition to the 37-unit core, each studem is encouraged to select a speciali za ti on of 10 uni LS to be taken either withi n or ouLSide of the Christ­ ian Edu cation and Bibli ca l Studies DepartmenLS to fu lfill his/ her elec tive requ irements.
