Talbot School of Theology desires only quali fied students and personnel who are commi tted to Jes us Christ. However, in the admission of students, the hi ring of employees or the opera tion of any of its programs and activi ties, Talbot does not discriminate on the basis of the appli cant 's race, color, sex, handicap or nat ional or ethni c origin. Inquiries concerning this pol icy may be addressed to the semina1y compliance di rector fo r Title IX. Entrance requi rements fo r each prog ram are li sted on th e page describing that program under the heading, Admission Requirements.

Advanced compositional skills, com mensurate with graduate-level theological sn1dies, are foundational and inclispens able, both in te rms of educa tional and ministerial success. For this reason, all new students are required to take the Tal bot Writing Profi ciency Exam (TWPE) piior to registration for the first semester. In te rnat ional students and those fo r whom English is a second language are required to take both the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Biola English Placement Exam instead of the TWPE. Those who score above 600 on the TOEFL will take the TWPE la ther than the Biola English Placement Exam. TWPE res ults will determine whether enrollment in SS 500 Theologi cal Wiitingwill be required. If required, this course must be taken in the first semester of seminary sn1dy. (See page T-3 fo r course descripti on.) Students who receive a grade lower than "C-" in this course must repeat the course. The Biola English Placement Exam, where applicable (see above) , will determin e whether enrollment in appropriate ESL course work will be required. Academic load The minimum full-time load is nine units for those in the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts and Master of Theology degree programs. Those carrying less than the full-Lime load are considered part-time sn1dents. The standard sn1dent load in the Master of Divi ni ty (M. Div.) program is twelve (12) uni ts. Astudent is n01mal ly pe1mitted to carT)' a maximum of 18 uni ts each semester. To exceed this maximum load, the student must petition the Registrar's office. Amaxi mum of six (6) uni ts, may be taken by a student in independent study, ari-anged, correspondence and ITS courses to be coun ted toward a student'sprogram. A uni t of credit is generally con sidered to consist of one class hour (50 mi nutes) a week fo r a semester. ln some cases, such as laborato1y ses sions, a unit of credi t may invo lve more than one class period a week. As indicated on the cuniculum charts for each progrnm, the various curiicula require 1418 uni ts per semester in order to graduate in the number of year-s speci fied by the chait However, sn1dents who find it necessary to work 20 or more how-s weekly to provide living expenses should plan to reduce their academic load. Such a red ucti on wo uld ex tend the time required for a degree program, though parti cipati on in summer session and interterm could helpoffset the difference.

A side-effect is that family members may feel they are not a part of the seminary experience. Talbot has a deep-rooted commitment to the famil y, especially the famil ies of its sn1dents. Awide-rang ing vari ety of programs, events , activi ti es, opportunities, and services have been developed to fos ter family partici pation in the seminary experience.
