With respect to her artistic process, she notes “my usual way of working is to start with a vague idea which ideally evolves into a clear concept while I experiment with shapes or colors, or moving collage material around. I say to myself often “What if I do this?” There’s both chance and choice involved in the process. These past few years I’ve been repurposing older paintings and other stored materials in my studio as much as possible in the interest of sustainability. My latest work is a series of collages in which each one is constructed using two older paintings on paper, some cut up, some kept whole as a background for the cut pieces.” If you have an eagle eye, you can spot “repurposed” components of another older work from the Princess series on an image on the artist’s website. It’s quite the Easter Egg to find! Her works have been commissioned and are held in private collections such as the actor Ray Romano, Neiman-Marcus Honolulu, Kahala Mandarin Hotel, Queen’s Hospital Honolulu, Edwards Airforce Base, Luxor Hotel, FedEx, Nissan and the late Senator Robert Byrd among the most noted. Be sure to take a closer look at these works the next time you’re in the Cleghorn Room, and let the collages take you on a trip back in time.

HOW TO START THE NEW YEAR
January invites a slower pace and a focus on quality, making it a great month to try thoughtful, well-crafted wines—whether you're indulging, moderating, or exploring alcohol-free options. Four recommended bottles stand out:
KERRY ICHIMASA Club Sommelier Fre Wines Alcohol-Removed Sparkling Brut (California): Light, crisp, and fruit- forward with notes of apple, pear, and strawberry; pairs well with creamy seafood, sushi, fried foods, and salty snacks. Villa Sandi “Il Fresco” Brut Prosecco (Italy): Fresh, bright, and aromatic with golden apple and floral notes; ideal with savory appetizers, seafood, and poke. La Chablisienne “Le Finage” Chablis 2023 (France): A lively Chardonnay featuring pear, lemon, and herbal tones; excellent with oysters, ceviche, shellfish, and tempura. Brendel by Heitz Cellar “Cooper’s Reed” 2022 (California): A rich, velvety red blend with dark fruit, chocolate, and spice; complements grilled meats, roasted vegetables, lamb, venison, and aged cheeses. January becomes a month of wine discovery—embracing moderation, luxury, and new tastes alike.
