ASPIRATION - RESILIENCE - KINDNESS
WELCOME TO THE COLNE COMMUNITY SCHOOL AND COLLEGE
It is our aim to get the best out of every student, therefore, we put Learning and Teaching at the centre of all aspects of our work. Our vision is based upon clear and concise values: Aspiration, Resilience and Kindness. In working towards instilling these values in every student we strive to provide a safe, healthy, stimulating and exciting environment for all. Our curriculum is based around the needs of students and includes a truly inclusive range of subjects to ensure all students have access to the skills and knowledge that will allow them to flourish in an ever developing society. Working together, in partnership with parents and carers and the wider community, will ensure we are creating a dynamic and innovative learning institution that is at the heart of Brightlingsea.

ASPIRATION - RESILIENCE - KINDNESS
OUR PARTNERSHIP Students become successful learners when the whole community comes together to help them. The most important of these partnerships lies between parents, school and the student. When a student joins The Colne Community School and College we enter into a three part agreement. Our Home School Agreement puts responsibilities on each of us to work for our students’ success. Underpinning this is our belief that if students undertake seriously the following they will be successful:
OUR GUIDE TO SUCCESS • Attend • Be on time • Be prepared to learn • Work well together • Respect each other
OUR VISION, MISSION AND CORE VALUES “WORKING TOGETHER TO SUCCEED”
Our motto underpins everything we do in the school and college from ensuring that all our students are encouraged and supported to achieve their full potential, in and out of the classroom, to the continuing professional development of our highly qualified staff. Not to be overlooked is the pivotal role parents, carers and the local community play in role modelling Aspiration, Resilience and most importantly, Kindness to all of our young people. OUR MISSION The Colne Community School and College challenges all to achieve excellence as lifelong learners with the highest expectations of themselves and others. No exceptions, no excuses. The school is at the heart of the community and as such we seek to actively involve the community whenever we can.
OUR CORE VALUES Aspiration – All students, staff, parents and carers will strive for excellence in all areas of life and learning.
Resilience – Never giving up on yourself or others, seeing the best in all of those around us.
Kindness – Demonstrating kindness to all irrespective of age, race, religion, gender or sexuality.

WORKING TOGETHER - OUR STUDENTS’ VOICE
Students have the right to be consulted on matters that will affect them. Every Year group has elected members who represent the widely held view of the student body via a number of student forums including the House and School Council.
We also have an elected Head Boy and Head Girl who lead on the student voice.
OFSTED reported favourably on the school and college. The school has continued to develop since the report and build on the strengths identified, with students clearly at the heart of the work we do.
WORKING TOGETHER - REVIEWING AND PERSONALISING LEARNING :
The key adult in our work is each student’s personal tutor who, along with subject staff, identify areas for improvement and agree strategies and targets that will make a difference. These strategies are co-ordinated and closely monitored to ensure there is a real impact on our students’success. We are an inclusive school and we tailor our curriculum and support to ensure that every child’s self esteem and self worth increases. Where a student is identified as having a specific special need our Learning Support Teamdevelops support plans to tackle specific requirements.
The school provides support through:
• Tailored teaching • Individual learning programmes • Small group tutoring • Support in the classroom • Mentoring • Counselling • Special programmes and events
Our relationship with parents is important to us. We know parents hold a lot of knowledge about how their child copes with challenges and success. We believe that we can only provide the right environment for learning and growth with parents’ help. Parents also have an important voice about general school matters and, in addition to the usual methods of communication, all parents are offered an opportunity to attend our Parents’ Forum which is held at half termly intervals. We regularly survey parents on a wide range of issues and analyse and respond to the information such surveys provide us with. WORKING TOGETHER - OUR PARENTS’ VOICE
REWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS We have a well developed system to reward students who do well, make progress and achieve personal bests in their time at The Colne. Public celebration is the key to our philosophy and
our regular Award Assemblies reinforce the message that success is both desirable and achievable.
LEARNING TOGETHER - LEARNING TO ENJOY
At The Colne Community School and College there is a long tradition of extending the curriculum by experiences and visits outside the formal taught time. Students in all Year groups are entitled to experiences, visits and opportunities that support their learning in a variety of ways throughout their time with us. Our immersion opportunities offer different ways of learning about significant issues not always examined in the formal curriculum but which are vital for young people as they grow towards adult life.
OUR BEHAVIOUR SYSTEM
Our behaviour system is based around an understanding that students have a responsibility for their actions and that they must be made aware when they do the wrong thing.
Misbehaviour is followed up rigorously and systems for detention or exclusion exist.
We will ensure our school is a safe and orderly school where all students can participate in learning without distraction from others.
