communication skills and perceived barriers to effective communication.

Conclusion: Embedding teach-back and health literacy awareness into routine radiotherapy practice represents a sustainable, patient-centred approach to improving communication. This project aligns with Health Information & Quality Authority’s (HIQA) Standards for Safer Better Healthcare, the Joint Commission International (JCI) Standards: Patient and Family Education, and the International Patient Safety Goal: Improve Effective Communication. (3,4,5) Ongoing evaluation and prospective audit will assess the long- term impact on patient understanding and experience. References: 1. Kickbusch I, Pelikan JM, Apfel F, Tsouros AD, editors. Results: Twenty-eight patients and twenty-three RTTs

participated in the respective questionnaires. The key findings included:26% of RTs disagreed, and 57% neither agreed nor disagreed that patients understood the preparation process, indicating a communication gap. 18% of patients reported not understanding why treatment preparation was required.36% of patients reported feeling overwhelmed by the information about treatment preparation. One patient identified as illiterate, highlighting the need for additional support with preparation. One patient with dyslexia noted the usefulness of the visual aid in understanding the preparation process.Education sessions were subsequently delivered to HCPs presenting these findings. Health literacy, teach-back method training, and proposed strategies to overcome communication barriers identified by RTTs (figure 2) were also addressed. Following this, RTTs incorporated teach- back into patient education, and staff were encouraged to document communication needs in patients’ electronic medical records to support multidisciplinary awareness and continuity of care.
