P. ------------ (y ----------- A Bright Chinese Student N New Year’s Day, 1916, a young Chi- ^ nese girl, Miss Lily Ing, arrived at the Bible Institute, to take up the two years’ course o f study. She desired, before return ing, to her native land, to have a thorough knowledge o f the Bible, in order that she might do effective work for her Lord, her expectation being to use her kindergarten training to reach the mothers, through the children, in addition to the regular Bible work. She came to us from the Presby terian Chinese Home in San Francisco, the “Girls Lyceum Club” o f the Bible Insti tute agreeing to become responsible 'for her expenses while at the Institute. 1. ,2 Cor. 8:12, A willing mind. 2. 2 Cor. 8:19, A ready mind. 2. She proved herself an apt student, stand ing high in every study, including music, and the Institute instructors were unan imous in predicting for her a useful career in the Lord’s service. Her face was famil iar to the congregations of the Church of the Open Door, as she sang in the choir, and she was a constant attendant at the meetings o f the Lyceum Club, where she was affectionately known as “ Our Lily.” She finished her course in January, but

remained to study a little longer, until an urgent cablegram came from China, desiring her assistance in definite work for the Lord in the Bible school in Shanghai, where she had received her early training. She expressed her readiness to gd, and, though many difficulties presented themselves, the Lord wonderfully removed them all, and arrangements were made for her immediate departure. On March 14, with the faculty on the platform, and in the presence o f the student body, Miss Ing received her diploma, her flowers and gifts. She gave a short talk, expressing her thanks to God for the bless ings which had come to her through the Institute, and declaring her intention to faithfully serve Him among her own people. She left a day or two later, and on April 6 sailed for China. The Bible Institute has thus added another to'its growing list of representatives in the foreign field.
