8.6.3 During all paid leaves of absence, whether industrial accident leave as provided in this Section 8.6 or sick leave, vacation, compensated time off or other available leave provided by law or by the provisions of this Agreement or by other action of the Governing board, the member shall endorse the District wage loss benefit checks received under the workers' compensation laws of the state. The District in turn, shall issue the member appropriate warrants for payment of wages or salary and shall deduct normal retirement and other authorized contributions. The District shall also deduct the temporary disability indemnity, if any, actually paid to and retained by the member for

the period covered by such salary warrants.

8.6.4 The District reserves the right to secure proof of industrial accident or illness of any bargaining unit member. Before salary payments shall be made to a member absent because of an industrial accident or illness, a report of such accident or illness in the form prescribed by the District must be on file in the office of the Director of Human Resources and Risk Management and the injury or illness must have qualified for

workers' compensation benefits.

8.6.5 The District follows the State of California Labor Code with respect to the

provisions of medical treatment for employees who are injured on the job.

8.7

Bereavement Leave

8.7.1 Unit members are entitled to a leave of absence, not to exceed five (5) days, on account of the death of any member of their immediate family. This leave must be completed within three (3) months of the death. No deduction shall be made from the salary of such member nor shall such leave be deducted from leave granted by other

provisions of this Agreement.
