Inspection of Cattle Feb 5th & 6th Catalog pictures were taken early Dec, 2025 View updated pictures, videos and catalog online Bull Care We do not creep feed! The bulls have been fed rations developed by JR Distributing, Lake Norden, SD. Their program of low energy and high forage really fits our bulls and is utilized by many other seedstock producers, Angus and Simmental, so that you can directly compare gains and condition. Fall bulls are raised on grass only from about May 10th until spring bulls are weaned. At that point all bulls go on feed/ test together.

W elcome to our Sale of Value Based Genetics!!
In October Lynda and I moved 5 miles away from the farm. After 35 years living on the farm right across the fence from the cattle, it has been quite an adjustment! Lynda is retired, yet continues to volunteer counseling seniors with questions on Medicare and health insurance. With all of the current excitement in the cattle industry, it has certainly increased the level of interest in our cattle business. I really enjoy all of the genetic and management discussions! Michelle and Todd have recently remodeled their house. It looks beautiful and really fits their needs. Three kids keep them extremely busy chasing to activities. Michelle continues with her ownership of Elkader Vet Clinic and Todd with Acrisure insurance. It appears to be a good fit for both of them. Todd went deer hunting this year on the coldest day of the year. He got some looks, but no deer. Hopefully he’ll have better weather and luck next year.
Eli continues to love sports and is extremely good at all of them. He is very quiet, very caring and a great older brother. He has a smile that melts your heart. He thought he would try wrestling this year and seems to like it. He will succeed at whatever sport he chooses, I’m guessing. It’s scary, I’m sure you will agree, but he reminds me a lot of me!
Noah amazes me with the knowledge he comes up with. He’s constantly studying history or world events and is not afraid to correct grandpa when wrong. He found his voice this year and certainly likes to practice it a lot. Our bottle calf show together was one of the summer highlights again. While Todd came deer hunting this year, Noah came along and was up and ready at 5:30 a.m. to go with grandpa. Gotta love that! Eve, aka “Scooter” according to grandpa, almost likes being held upside down more than being right side up. She’s still loving “nastics” and loves having grandpa throw her in the air and tickle her. She’s full of energy 24/7 and smart as a whip. She has grandpa’s stubborn streak, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Steve and Bri love living in Prior Lake and very much enjoy all their friends and the amenities of the suburbs. They also have hit the sports era with Paisley and Porter. Steve and Bri recently purchased a business and are in the organizational process. I’m very proud of them for having the guts to take a chance and work for themselves. As smart and hard as they both work, I’m sure it will go great! Bri continues as a director at Be the Match, the National Marrow Donor Program.
Paisley is busy with basketball, volleyball and softball. She really enjoyed softball this year and was the home run hitter for the team. She is most likely the horse kid of the grandkids and never misses a chance to do something with horses. She is a sweetheart and loves to sing me songs and laughs at all of the really dumb things I come up with. Porter is really into sports. He developed confidence in football this year and really excelled. He decided he is a better athlete than Justin Jefferson of the Vikings. No lack of confidence there! Like his dad, if he is awake, he is moving. Wish I had all of that energy again!! I am extremely fortunate to have the support of my family and all our young people helping to get this all done.

Kimmi & Christian Cooper
Maddie Hrdlicka is now a new mother to Seaton. He is a cute and happy little guy. Motherhood really fits Maddie. Her caring about everything large and small is what makes her a great vet and mother. She continues at Decorah Vet Clinic and her husband, Austin, at CUSB Bank. Erin Ryan…She and Wes Searcy became engaged and are currently planning a wedding. She and Wes were fantastic help moving and we always enjoy their company. She graduated from ISU and is working at Eocene Environmental Group. Kamryn Langreck is in her 6th year helping and is really a great young lady. I am extremely fond of picking on her as she takes it very well with great comebacks. I asked her if she has a boyfriend and she said I need to find one for her. So…any single guys out there, please contact me. Autumn Feine continues to do pictures, videos and editing of livestock videos. She helps out a lot again this year. She is very meticulous and orga- nized. She works with Livestock Digital and does a super job with all of our advertising efforts. Kimmi Vrieze, now Kimmi Cooper, married her high school sweetheart, Christian Cooper. They make a great couple, are both very hard working, very good with cattle and I really enjoy having both of them around. They are building a house and starting in the cattle business. Good luck. We wish them the best! Cale Knight graduated from high school and is enrolled at Upper Iowa University majoring in forestry management. He is also our resident Amish now, with his beard and mustache. Hopefully the girls like it. What a great hard working young man! Calli Tveeten started this fall after enrolling at NICC. She’s got lots of cow sense and is a hard worker. She smiles a lot and I really like that about her. Great young lady! Mike Wilson continues to help whenever needed. You never replace a friend or cattleperson like Mike. He knows the cattle and how to make things run smoothly. After 8 days of picturing, Mike was still going and doing whatever was needed. At 71 years young, there is no quitting in that guy! I really appreciate his continued help and support. Jacob and Bailey Kach moved to the farm after we moved to the new house. It seemed like someone was moving something for almost a month,
and realistically that was true. They seem to love it here and I love seeing little ones running around again. Jake continues to learn and become a better manager daily. It’s easy to see he loves the cattle busi- ness and now he and Bailey have 2 donor quality females to work with. They’re really great young people that I would encourage everyone to meet. I’m really blessed with great help!! I couldn’t do this without you guys. Thanks much. Our production partners have the same goals and commitment to producing superior seed-stock that we do. Please take the time to get to know each of them. I would like to extend my thanks for all their hard work and dedication toward producing some of the best seed-stock available in the industry today. As always, all of the cattle selling are guaranteed to perform as expected or we’ll fix it to your satisfaction. We encourage everyone to take advan- tage of our hospitality and join us Friday or Saturday for a showing of the bulls or tour of the cowherd. Please remember our servicemen in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to protect our rights and liberties. We look forward to seeing you February 7th.

Is that another picture of Landman? One would almost think so. Maternal brothers that are awesome in their own right! Phenomenal gains, phenotype and structural soundness from 2 different sires. Traits I prioritize when selecting our next herdsire. Sugar is a 1600 lb power cow and produces what she is. Extremely wide topped like her dam and granddam. Genetics that absolutely work.

SAS Shootin the Moon J221 Complete would be the obvious way to describe Moon cattle. Sound, easy fleshing, excellent growth and attrac- tiveness. They are cattle that fulfill the needs of every segment of the beef chain, our goal from the beginning. His mother Belle, I consider to be a model cow in size, type and soundness. She is gorgeous in appearance and passes it on to all her offspring!

Selling 100 % semen interest only I purchased Uppercut semen in hopes of producing this bull. Outcross pedigree for our operation, with tons of muscle and performance. We are selling 100% semen interest only. He will be used in my herd natu- rally only. Homozygous black and homozygous polled, outcross genetics and a balanced EPD proof should make his semen highly marketable or put the owner in the forefront of the industry.

More than just the Cherry on top! Deep cherry red herdisre prospect. He has as much jam and substance as you can put into a calving ease prospect. Great hoof size and shape on this guy but then his angles and structure are near perfect. The Chockta cow family is one of our more prevalent as they check every box. Beautiful physical design and beautiful udder design with fleshing ability and consistent production. SRH Hannibal 5H Hannibal is very unique in that he calves well on heifers yet the progeny are stout, attractive and powerful. I noticed he really clicked well with Bitten females adding another generation of similar characteristics. Powerful calves from a heifer bull increases profitability for everyone!

A Word on Bull Care
Our bulls have been developed utilizing a low energy, high roughage diet. They are designed to flourish on grass and as such flesh up and or hold their weight very easily. A bull purchased through this sale should never see grain again throughout his lifetime. Grain softens their feet and allows them to grow longer than needed. We expect these bulls to last 5 to 6 years for their new owner. This is one way to get the most out of your bull. Thanks, Jeff

I would like to thank the people of JR feeds for their profession- alism and knowledge to develop our bulls and females properly. Their program of low energy and high forage diets along with the ability to utilize the feedstuffs we have on hand has certainly brought out the potential of our bulls and females. Developing seedstock properly is crucial to longevity while allowing them the potential to survive in our environment. Feet quality, scrotal size and heifer fertility have all improved through the use of their products and from their knowledge of the feeding program. Thanks so much for all they do!

I recently purchased some bred heifers, an open heifer and a bull from the Springer Value Based Genetics sale. They are the type of cattle that fit into my idea of what they should do. They are excellent mothers that breed back on time with good feet, along with good udder attachment and teat size that is a must in anyone’s operation! The bull I purchased stays in excellent shape without any grain. Calves are vigorous when born and just flat out grow when they hit the ground!! That’s a tribute to Jeff’s philosophy on how Genetics should work!! David Chambers (pictured is David’s granddaughter Kinsleigh) Chambers Cattle Co.

- Some Things Stay the Same - Every year seems to come with its own unique challenges. One thing that has not changed is that calves sired by Springer Simmental bulls continue to work. They calve without issues, have excellent growth and consistently top sales for their owners. Females produce at the top of their contemporary group and carcass premiums are realized in the feedlot. Utilizing every tool possible we have concentrated on foot quality, natural thickness and hip length. Females with beautiful udders and natural instinct for their calves with ease of fleshing and the ability to wean huge calves. A quiet disposition is a must, no exceptions. We have genomically tested some of the herdbull candidates to increase the accuracy of their EPDs. Buy with confidence that our bulls and females will perform as expected or we will fix it.
- Reap the Benef its of 47 years of Selection!!! - In the last 47 years we expect a heifer to nurture a calf without issue. She has to have an attractive udder with longevity and be easy to work with. She is expected to breed back within 30 days of her initial calving and make a positive impact in our herd. That means quality and quantity both. Anything less and she is culled. If the calf doesn’t nurse on its own in 2 to 3 hrs they are flagged and not kept back. Vaccinations are a must, but that calf needs to stay healthy and vigorous or they are flagged. He needs to look like a stud and she a princess or they are flagged. They also need to grow at the top end of their contemporary group, or they are flagged for cull. Females need to grow out on a limited ration and breed in a timely manner and still look like a princess. Bulls must grow fast on low energy feedstuffs and look like bulls. They need large testicals, not just testicals. They need to semen check at an early age. That doesn’t mean at 16 months the day before turn out and the vet says well maybe. We utilize EPD’s as a tool for guidance and record everything we can get our hands on. I dislike adjustments as cattle mature at different rates and stages. Almost certainly adjustments tend to be false at some point. After 47 years of following this program we cull or even flag very few. Our cows are as consistent in kind and type as you will find. Buy with confidence, you will be receiving the benefit of all these processes!!! REMINDER: I have a list of buyers looking for feeders sired by our genetics. Please call before you sell them and I will make them aware of the details of when and where you are selling. Every fall I get calls of producers looking for bred females carrying our genetics . If you are going to disperse or have bred or open females to sell please call and I will do my best to line up buyers for your females . Jeff
