Chamber, Urban League Launch Inclusion Series to create stronger dialogue, engagement

The Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City Inc. and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber announced a new monthly series: Creating a Culture of Inclusion. These events are part of a partnership aimed at creating a stronger dialogue and engagement of the Oklahoma City business community around issues of social justice and anti-racism. These events will help managers and business owners navigate new and challenging conversations about race while also ensuring your company is offering equitable opportunities for all. The topics and dates for these events are: Oct. 26: Honest Conversations About Race in the Workplace Nov. 16: Recognizing How Implicit Bias Affects the Workplace Dec. 1: Celebrate Equal Opportunity Day with The Urban League of Greater OKC Jan. 26: Ensuring Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Hiring Process Feb. 23: Implementing a DEI Program for businesses of all sizes March 23: Strategies for Increasing Minority Business Suppliers April 27: Creating Space for Cultural Awareness During the Oct. 26 session, participants will begin the conversation about how to talk about race in the workplace. The event will include more information about the benefits of diverse workplaces and how we can all contribute to making our community and society more inclusive.

The guest speaker for the event is Tahira Taqi , a certified trainer in cultural intelligence and managing unconscious bias. Taqi is a Senior Project Manager at Urban Strategies in Tulsa. She has a strong background in inclusion and diversity, working in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Each session will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and will be held virtually on Zoom.
