Artist: Vinod Kulkarni I am a passionate & a serious photographer who loves to capture nature, landscape, wildlife (incl macro), architecture & cityscape. For me photography is one of the best ways to capture a moment which will neither reoccur naturally nor can it be recreated by us ar- tificially. Through my photography, I showcase the colourful nature and wildlife which we are blessed with. To protect our nature, one of the first steps is to make people aware of what we have today and my photographs are focused more on this.Over the years many of which have won both National and International awards in Salon/Exhibitions and other contests. Some of my work has been featured in National Geographic and a few other magazines & newspapers. In March 2020, one of my favourite photographs is published as a cover page of a Religion Textbook “Religion Matters” by W W Norton publication, with 99k copies of prints rights. This book is written by Stephen Prothero. Statement: Rituals are at the centre of everything we do, this is the way we all have lived and it will continue for generations to come. It is our responsibility to pass on our culture and all the rituals to the next generation so that it can live for many more years to come. This was shot in a small town of Karnataka, Shravanabelagola, where thousands of devotees especially from Jain religion come every month to offer their prayers to Lord Bahubhali. The priest was offering kumkma water (red) right onto the idol’s feet, a memorable moment. This image also reminds that even though devotees come and go, the ritual has to continue day in and day out and the priest is the one who sacrifices and lives his life serving the almighty.
