Flipping Through Pages THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF READING
March is also Nutrition Month, a time to emphasize the importance of a balanced and healthy diet. I strive to dial in my nutrition by counting macros and making conscious choices about what I eat. However, the reality is that juggling time constraints and life’s busyness makes maintaining a perfect diet challenging. During a hectic schedule, my best advice is to focus on small, sustainable changes. Instead of crash dieting or adhering to elaborate meal plans, I emphasize the significance of making simple adjustments. Avoiding an extra doughnut or cutting out unhealthy snacks can make a substantial difference. Opting for nutritious, whole foods and incorporating physical activity into daily routines are key to achieving lasting results.
Over the years, reading has undergone a major transformation, influenced by technological advancements and changes in lifestyle. While electronic devices, audiobooks, and even podcasts have opened up new avenues for consuming literature, the charm of picking up a physical book and immersing oneself in the pages is unlike any other — call me old school, I won’t be offended! March 2 was Read Across America Day, so March is a perfect time to reflect on how reading has evolved and the importance of keeping the traditional experience of flipping through pages alive! There’s something timeless about the feel of a book in hand, the scent of its pages, and the tactile connection between the reader and the text. Books are an immersive experience and stimulate the senses in a way that a digital screen can never truly replace. When you think about it, physically flipping through the pages requires focus and concentration, but it’s so easy to get distracted while listening to a podcast or audiobook while driving, working, cleaning, or working out! In a world full of notifications and multitasking, the simplicity of a book offers a break and a pause from the craziness of our surroundings.
devices, reading remains a powerful tool for education, imagination, and personal growth. Speaking of personal growth, one of my favorite books with many great ideas and lessons is “Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less” by Greg McKeown. This book dives into the concept that less is more and offers insights into how to prioritize time and focus on what truly matters. As I flip through the pages, Greg McKeown’s ideas open up reflection and contemplation on my own life, thoughts, and experiences. If you’re looking for a new captivating read, I highly recommend a copy!
So, whether you prefer the crisp pages of a novel or the convenience of digital formats, I hope Read Across America Day
has given you the gentle nudge to pick up a new book or engage in a new story. Reading can be transformative!

Dish Out Meal Prep With a Few Easy Tricks
Let’s be honest: Cooking every day can be a hassle, especially for busy people or those who simply want to spend time doing something else. That’s where meal prepping can become a valuable tool to save time and money while ensuring you have something healthy to eat. Thankfully, you can find many ways to make meal prep fast and easy while keeping things exciting for your taste buds. Let’s look at four ways to level up your meal prep game. Use frozen veggies. Frozen vegetables are a lifesaver for quick and nutritious meal prep. These veggies are usually flash-frozen at peak ripeness, so they retain most of their nutrients. They can be thrown directly into stir-fries, casseroles, or soups without chopping or pre-cooking. This reduces prep and cooking time, making it easier to maintain a healthy diet. Moreover, you can freeze vegetables for up to 8–12 months, so you can always keep a variety on hand whenever you need them. The slow cooker is your friend. The internet has innumerable simple, one-pot recipes you can make in a slow cooker. The best thing about a slow cooker is that you throw all of your ingredients in at once, then set it and forget it. You can make a lot of food with little effort and divide the leftovers to eat later.
Get creative with catering. Many restaurants offer a catering menu where you can order large amounts of already-cooked food. While you have to check prices, some restaurants like Chipotle offer large quantities of food at a reasonable cost. Even if it is a little more expensive than the grocery store, saving that extra time might be worth it. Use condiments to enhance flavor. Utilizing condiments wisely can elevate your meals from bland to grand without adding much cook time. Make a batch of versatile sauces or dressings during your meal prep sessions. For example, you can use a good vinaigrette as a salad dressing, a marinade for meat, or a dip for veggies. By premaking these, you can instantly add flavor to your dishes. Premeasure the amounts to accompany each meal for better portion control. This way, you save time and watch your calorie intake.

• It promotes blood sugar control by lowering insulin sensitivity — so fasting decreases the chances of getting Type 2 diabetes. • Fasting reduces acute inflammation and improves chronic inflammation, which has serious consequences for heart disease, cancer, and other serious conditions. • It improves heart health by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, decreasing the odds of developing heart disease. • Regular fasting may boost brain function and prevent neurodegenerative disorders. • Fasting helps with weight loss by increasing growth hormone secretion. Types of Fasting Before engaging in any fasting routine, check with your health practitioner to make sure you are making a choice that aligns with your continued health and wellness. There are many types of fasting, including: • Juice Fasts — You only drink fruit or vegetable juices for the duration of the fast. • Water Fasts — You can only drink water for a regulated period of time. • Intermittent Fasting — This technique restricts food intake, wholly or partially, throughout the day or for part of the week. You can eat as you usually would during the off-hours or days. Fasting, a healthy diet, and exercise offer many health benefits and help keep your body and mind spry as you age. Talk to your doctor to see if fasting could be a reasonable part of your life plan.
Fasting for Vitality TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR HEALTH
Fasting is a popular diet trend at the moment. You can find videos all over the internet about the benefits people have had while engaging in fasting. Fortunately, unlike many fad diets, the fasting trend is positive, as research has shown it offers many health benefits. Here’s a look at a few of those. Why should you fast? When the body stops getting calories, you start burning fat reserves in your body. This fat is sent to the liver and converted into acids called ketones. Ketones are used as fuel to run your body and brain like a backup generator when it doesn’t have food. This process is called ketosis and happens when you fast. Besides burning fat, fasting offers other benefits. PEST OF THE MONTH FLEAS AND TICKS: TINY TROUBLEMAKERS In Arizona, fleas and ticks are a common concern due to the region’s warm climate. Let’s look at some facts about these tiny pests! Fleas

Fleas, known for their resilience, come in two types: host fleas and nest fleas. Female fleas lay approximately one egg per hour and require frequent blood meals to sustain egg production. The life cycle of fleas involves eggs hatching within 2-5 days, leading to larvae undergoing three instars over 7-21 days before transitioning to the pupa stage. During the pupa stage, the larva spins a silk cocoon that blends with the surroundings, remaining dormant for 4-5 months. Ticks Ticks present their own set of challenges. Ticks are vectors for serious diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Often mistaken for bedbugs, ticks can be differentiated by examining their backs for horizontal stripes. Prevention Regular grooming and examination of pets, along with utilizing vet- approved preventive treatments, is essential. Maintaining a clean living environment, including regular vacuuming and yard maintenance, can minimize the risk of infestations.
