april meeting 15th – 16th April

SPRING INTOACTION

After the frenetic pace of The Festival, Cheltenham’s April Meeting is the perfect time to kick back and relax

THIS TWO-DAY MIDWEEK meeting takes place during the Easter holidays on 15th and 16th April 2020 and is the perfect excuse to enjoy fantastic sport at a world-class venue. The April Meeting made history in the last few years as Cheltenham became the first Jump racing track to host an all-mares’ card on the second day of the fixture. It’s the last chance for the professionals to test themselves on Cheltenham’s hallowed turf before the summer break. It is a chance to catch an early glimpse of horses that could well return to the Home of Jump Racing in March on racing’s biggest stage, The Festival ™ presented by Magners. Our penultimate meeting is usually blessed with sunshine and is a popular time for racegoers to experience a different side to Cheltenham without the hustle and bustle of the bigger meetings.

The 2019 fixture saw seven races on the two cards produce quality action, with horses such as Mister Whitaker (Johnny Burke) capitalising on his consistent Cheltenham form from previous years in the Cure Parkinson’s And Hambo Foundation Silver Trophy Chase on Day One. Johnny said of the win: “I was able to go wide and I was probably on the best horse in the race. He jumped the last well and toughed it out when it looked like he was pulling up so I’m delighted.” The second day of the meeting was bathed in brilliant sunshine, with Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore heading over from the Emerald Isle specifically to ride the Henry De Bromhead-trained Havingagoodtime in the Junior Jumpers Fillies’ Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. The chestnut filly won very impressively to ensure that the trip from Ireland was

worthwhile. Rachael is no stranger to the Cheltenham Winners’ Enclosure following her two successes at The Festival, including a Grade One victory.
