CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE’S LAST meeting is one of its most popular racedays, and it is not hard to see why. Celebrating the grass roots of the sport with a card dedicated to Hunter Chase racing, it gives amateur horses, jockeys, and trainers their chance to shine on the biggest stage in the sport. The meeting isn’t shy of well-known faces, with 2019’s evening fixture seeing The Festival ™ presented by Magners victor, Hazel Hill, in the St James’s Place Foxhunters Chase making a winning return in a strong and exciting battle under top amateur jockey, Alex Edwards. In the past, we have seen the likes of Bryony Frost ride around the course before becoming the household name that she is now. The 2019 fixture saw Southfield Theatre go on to become a popular winner in the four-mile Open Hunters’ Chase for the Bradstock family. Lily Bradstock and the 11-year-old finished a length clear of Optimised(Alex Edwards) in second place. The Bradstocks are no stranger to the Cheltenham Winners’ Enclosure, having experienced the sweetest success of them all when Coneygree won the Cheltenham Gold Cup back in 2015. As well as plenty of entertainment on the track, Race Night saw the season end
in style as Greg James (from BBC Radio 1) took to the stage for the second time at Cheltenham. The Breakfast Show host will make it a quick-fire treble as he is set to return to the stage on Friday 1st May 2020 to perform a live set after racing. Race Night is a chance to say a fond farewell to Prestbury Park for a few months as we all recover from the excitement and adrenaline of a jam- packed racing calendar. Racegoers can celebrate their favourite moments, spot a few future stars on the track and dance the evening away. Quite simply, it’s the perfect end to another successful season at the Home of Jump Racing.
