Y13 Bulletin 13.12.24

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13

This week photography students have taken part in their mock exam, putting their creativity to good use. Our A-level art students are also doing their mock in the last week of term. I look forward to seeing all the fantastic pieces they have created. This week we also had our Year 13 Celebration Assembly and it was so lovely to join together to recognise the achievements during what has been a very busy term for students. We were also treated to a performance from our A-Level music students who did a fantastic job and gave us an insight into their performance at tonight’s Winter Festival. It’s great to see so much talent in Year 13! This week students will have received their mock results and parents will receive the reports shortly. Can I remind all students and parents that these mocks are a practice for the real exams next year and students should take on the feedback given in order to improve. If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to get in contact. Wednesday will be the last day of term for our Sixth Form students. As this is our final parental bulletin of 2024, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for their support during the longest term of the year. I would also like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I look forward to welcoming rested and re-energised Year 13 students back to school on Monday 6th January.

MS SILLWOOD, HEAD OF YEAR 13

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘I who have never known men’ - Jacqueline Harpman A dystopian tale of 40 women locked in a bunker, they have no memory of how they became trapped in such a psychologically unforgiving setting. They have had all autonomy and romantic opportunity stripped away. It’s the youngest woman’s disorientating narrative centred around the female experience, in an attempt to answer philosophical questions regarding the essence of identity and what truly is an innate aspect of human nature. The book shines a light upon the undeniable importance of writing down experience, to maintain sanity through the creation of an imagined future reader. The detrimental consequences of isolation, complete under exposure and grief are explored in immense detail. Knowledge also plays a key role, are we guilty of taking our knowledge for granted? - Zara M, Year 12
