WHAT’S HATCHING Winter 2024
EVENTS RECAP 2024 has marked an important milestone as we celebrated 30 years of Hatch Mansfield. We started the year off with the collaborative All Points North tasting in Edinburgh where we worked alongside 11 wine companies to bring an extensive selection of premium wines to the North. The Hatch Mansfield 30th Celebration showcase of the year was at the London Wine Fair where we hosted 18 of our principals and presented over 300 of our wines to the trade and media. We celebrated our 30th anniversary at Joia during the fair where we connected with our key customers, Hatch team and principals whilst overlooking the Battersea skyline. The annual Hatch Portfolio Tasting in September brought a wide range of customers together to discover and experience our diverse range of premium wines. The new additions including a Hatch 30th Celebration seminar and the blind tasting challenge added to its overall success. Well done to Pippa for her amazing event management and to all involved; 2024 saw an incredible 31 different trade, consumer and hatch events being organised!
Thank you!

Well done for all the support she has provided Ben on Waitrose as he has been managing this account as well and being MD and looking after the NAM team! Her support and work has been invaluable.
Covered a tasting for Anna Ruddock in a snow covered Honiton, in a hall with no heating (about -2 degrees!) trying to keep the red wines warm in my coat!
For all her hard work getting Sena working well in Hedonism (after years of absolute rejection!)
Ash and Emily have been hard at work setting up a Taittinger Waitrose Oxford Street Takeover and had lots of positive engagement with the Waitrose team.

For creating such a beautiful festive Taittinger window with our production partner Graphic Mill in Wholefoods Knightsbridge.
A special shoutout to Lisa for all of her amazing work, especially with all the POS ordering and co- ordination in the festive season, often reacting to very short notice.
For negotiating a last minute opportunity for Cune in TFL London Underground with a stunning ad, in key underground stations at the busy festive period.
At this busy time, a big pat on the back to the entire Customer Service department for all of their incredible work.

UK DIRECTOR OF CHADWICK FAMILY WINES
Georgie Crawley, UK Director of Chadwick Family Wines, reflects on a recent Fine Wine dinner held on Wednesday, 27th November at Noizé’s Private Dining Room. The aim of the dinner was to connect with and speak to members of the sales teams from the larger Fine Wine Merchants (FWM)—those who rarely have the opportunity to meet producers or attend lunches and dinners hosted by agencies (these events are typically attended by buyers). The goal was to grow and educate the new brand champions of the future: younger team members with open mindsets, an appreciation for variety in wines, and the potential to become the future leaders of the industry. The event provided these individuals with the opportunity to attend a relaxed dinner where they could taste back-library vintages and a range of the top wines from the Chadwick/ Errázuriz, portfolio. This experience allowed them to learn about the history and future of these estates, while engaging in discussions with like-minded peers over each flight of wines. At the start of the evening, I highlighted what makes Chile a unique and special wine-producing country and explained why I believe it is the next region poised to break into the fine wine scene. We discussed why Eduardo’s estates are ahead of the curve in this space. Since many attendees had never visited Chile, this introduction was an ideal way to open the evening, sparking engaging discussions. We hosted 15 salespeople from top Fine Wine Merchants, with age ranges between 25 and 45. This demographic represents the up-and-coming talent in the industry, making it vital to capture their attention to ensure our wines are known, understood, and recognized as they progress in their careers. Getting their support is crucial! WHO ATTENDED
KEY TAKEAWAYS
• The team loved the dinner and the education on the wines and vintages presented. Most commented that they had only ever tasted new releases when we visit their offices or send samples. Being able to drink back vintages and library stock was an amazing experience for them.
• Building future relationships was extremely beneficial, as it allowed me to engage with everyone on a personal level and get to know them better.
• From a PR perspective, the event was brilliant and absolutely worth repeating. It was a fantastic opportunity to get attendees on-side, interested in these wines, and actively asking questions.
GIVING BACK
This year, we launched the Hatch Charity Committee, a dedicated initiative to streamline our fundraising efforts and ensure equitable support across the pillars of our charity strategy. One standout moment was presenting a giant cheque for £105,000 to Giuliana Vittiglio from Hospitality Action. This incredible amount was raised through the hard work of the Bike to Care initiative, led by David Stephan from Louis Jadot and Hatch Mansfield. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making this achievement possible! Other initiatives we did this year, were Macmillan Coffee, where we raised £118.40 with our office cake selections. We also supported the Ascot Food Bank, donating approximately 350kg of food this year! We’re hoping to beat this amount in December, with the help of everyone at Hatch. Our contributions were also recognized at The Drinks Trust Golden Pineapple Awards last September, where we were awarded Best Producer/Brand Supplier for our charitable efforts over the past year.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next on the calendar is the Hatch Mansfield Wine Laser Shoot on 10th January at Rudding Park, Harrogate. Proceeds will support The Drinks Trust, and all spaces have now been filled!
HATCH CHARITY PILLARS
Here’s a reminder of the key areas we support:
Wine/Drinks Industry Charities – e.g., The Drinks Trust.
Hospitality Support – e.g., Hospitality Action, including the impactful Bike to Care initiative.
Local Charities – e.g., the Hatch team’s food donations to the Ascot Food Bank, organized by Lynsey.
Personal Fundraising – Hatch will match individual fundraising efforts up to £100 per employee per year.
Each year, we also support a Staff Nominated Charity (e.g., the Northern Ethiopian Community Safe Water project) and brand-specific causes like Taittinger’s partnership with Action Against Hunger. Let’s carry this momentum forward into the new year as we continue making a positive impact together! Get in touch with Sophie Wren for any fundraising initiatives or Personal Fundraising you might want to do in 2025.

As an intern at Hatch, I am spending time with different teams to gain an insight into all departments within the business. I have spent most of my time so far supporting the Marketing and Brand Management teams, as well as assisting India with some work for Domaine Evremond. I have also been fortunate enough to spend a few days in- trade with the Sales team. I look forward to gaining more knowledge and experience across all departments in the New Year.
From a professional point of view, I am excited to continue my career in the wine industry and see exactly what role I will end up in. On a more personal level, I would love to return to South America to travel and discover more about the Latino culture.

People would be surprised if they knew...
I stumbled across the wine industry by chance when I started packing boxes for a wine merchant as a part time holiday job. I quickly realised what a fun industry it was and with a French and Spanish degree thought it would be the perfect place to start my career.
I used to sail for GB!

Moving to live abroad for a year alone whilst I was at university. I spent 6 months working in the visits team at Taittinger, and the other 6 months teaching English in Argentina.

TRAINING COURSES Despite busy diaries, 2024 has seen a full timetable of training, ensuring our team continue to gain valuable skills. This has taken the form of bespoke training for specific areas such as project management, as well as group courses recently held to upskill the team in Persuasive Communication, Performance Selling and Advancing Negotiation skills. In addition a number of the team are progressing through their WSET Diploma.
Hatch Wine School opened its doors in March of this year offering Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) courses for customers and Hatch staff, from the convenience of the NBH Boardroom. With Debs, Olivier and Al taking a block of training each, 20 students passed their Level 1 Award in Wines and 27 passed Level 2 (with 40% gaining a Distinction) in Hatch’s first year as a WSET Approved Programme Provider (APP). The WSET calendar is being firmed up for 2025 and congratulations goes to John Ferguson- Smith joining the team as an additional WSET Certified Educator, having attended and passed the WSET’s (very gruelling!) Educator training course over the summer. Dates will be circulated very soon but if anyone would like to undertake the Level 1 or 2 themselves or book customers in for either level, please contact Jen on wset@hatch.co.uk.
WELLBEING Thanks for everyone’s participation in another busy year of Wellbeing activities. From celebrating Random Acts of Kindness in February, Mandela Day in July and connecting colleagues via our Coffee Roulette membership there has been a big focus on getting together and talking in 2024, as well as continuing to raise awareness of where to go for support and understanding more about various health issues. Coffee Roulette will be continuing into the new year so if you’d like to join please let Debs know. There’s a lot more to come in 2025, with the first quarter of the year planned with “Brew Monday” on the 20th January for a more sociable alternative to Blue Monday. This will be followed by celebration of all Hatch’s animal pals with Love Your Pet day in February and a focus on Women’s History Month throughout March. As a reminder, the Wellbeing team members are Michelle, Ben, Jen, Tom, Aaron, Lynsey and Debs and suggestions for focus themes are always welcome from anyone in the business so please let any of the team have your ideas with as much notice as possible. And finally, thanks to everyone attending the festive Pot Luck in the office, Merry Christmas!
HAPPY HATCH HOUNDS
For International Dog Day we asked for submissions for Happy Hatch Hounds and the dog-owning families of Hatch did not disappoint. With a couple of creative interpretations of the rules, here is the shortlist of team dogs. Doggie treats will be available to collect from the office for all featured dogs, and the top three winners (impossible to pick just one!), will receive a small reward for being so joyful – well done to Wilson the Flying Dog, Charlie chasing bubbles and Teddy with his sombrero.
