HOW TO APPLY
LIVE-IN REQUIREMENT If you are unmarried and a first-year student enrolled in seven or more college credits, and under the age of 20, you must live in a CWU residence hall for one academic year regardless of the number of college credits you have earned (WAC 106-156-010 and WAC 106-156-011). Running Start students, regardless of class standing, are also required to live in residence halls for one year. Students requesting an exception to the policies must apply for an exception with Housing and Residence Life through their MyHousing page in advance of the quarter. REQUESTING A ROOMMATE Sharing a room provides the opportunity for developing new friendships. Students occupying a double or triple occupancy room may choose a roommate they already know. The roommate must be accepted to CWU. Roommate requests can be made through your MyHousing portal. CONTRACT The academic year contract offers room and board for the entire academic year and your commitment is for the full term of the contract. Exceptions include participation in an approved off-campus academic program, such as student teaching or an internship. Contract cancellation approvals are rare. If Housing and Residence Life permits you to terminate your contract during the academic year, you are subject to liquidated charges and fees in accordance with the room and board contract.

1. ROOM RATE STRUCTURE CWU offers standardized room rates throughout our residence halls. Your room rate is based on the type of room you select and whether that room is in a standard or amenity hall. The room and board rate charged to your student account is a combination of your residence hall room rate and your meal plan rate. 2. ROOM AND BOARD RATES The academic year at CWU consists of three regular academic quarters (fall, winter, and spring) and a summer session. The 2025-2026 room and board rates will be posted on our website at cwu.edu/housing once approved. CWU offers two different residence hall types: standard and amenity. Standard halls offer a classic collegiate experience and come fully furnished. Amenity halls offer air conditioning and elevators, in addition to your fully furnished room. All three room types are offered in both standard and amenity halls. UNDERSTANDING ROOM AND BOARD
