II. P aul and Silas in prison- vs. 25-26. Explain th is passage showing th a t th e te st of persecution often leads to victory. These two men prayed and praised God even while being put under th e g reatest test. Their prayers were followed by deliverance and reviv al. III. The conversion of the jailer, vs. 27-34. This passage shows the resu lts and power of God in answer to prayer. If we are consecrated men as P aul and Silas, the Lord will be able to use us mightily. It guides th e footsteps of the young; it throw s a ligh t upon th e pathway during th e m atu re years, and it is th e only book th a t one cares to have beside him when th e darkness gathers and he knows th a t th e end is near. Then he finds consolation in th e promises of th e Book of books and h is lips repeat, even when his words are inaudible, “ Yea, though I walk through th e valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear- no evil, for Thou a rt w ith me,” or “ I go to prepare a place for you, and where I am th ere ye may be also.”—Wm. J. Bryan. YOU CAN’T OUTGROW IT “Many books in my lib rary are now behind and beneath me. They were good in th e ir way once, and so were th e clothes I wore when I was ten years .old. Nobody ever outgrows Scrip ture; The book widens and deepens w ith the y ears.”— C. H. Spurgeon.

BLACKBOARD SKETCHES By E m Hansell SEPTEMBER 4, 1921 FROM PH IL IPP I TO ATHENS. ' Acts 16:19-34. I. P aul and Silas cast into prison vs. 19’-24. Explain- th e passage tell ing th e class th a t P aul and Silas were persecuted for Christ’s sake, bu t th a t they were willing to undergo anything through which th e glory of th e ir Mas te r m ight be obtained. MY GAIN ’Twas in my weakness th a t I learned The greatness of God’s might, ’Twas in my blindess th a t I saw The glory of His light; ’Twas in my need I found the store Of riches from above, ’Twas in my sin I realized The depths of Jesus’ love; ’Twas mid the storm I felt the calm Of His abiding peace, ’Twas when all others, failed I learned H is care can never cease; ’Twas in my pain I found the.balm That Heaven alone can give, ’’Twas when I suffered death w ith Him, He taught me how to live. Katheryn Finchey, 1916.
