PUTTING THE ‘PERSONAL’ IN PERSONAL INJURY LAW THE HARROWING CRASH THAT LED ME TO WHERE I AM TODAY

One day, when I was only 13, my family and I were driving home from our trip to Virginia. We were packed like sardines in the car, but other than feeling a little cramped, everything was fine. A family friend was following behind in his truck, loaded with mahogany lumber. He noticed, in his rearview mirror, a tractor trailer inching closer and closer to his vehicle. As the distance

pulling up and loading us into the back. I remember being terrified, the sirens blaring outside as we sped down the road — the very last thing you want to do after getting in a car accident. In the long run, everybody was okay, but we suffered from a litany of injuries for months, not to mention the ensuing medical bills. My father found a lawyer to see if we could receive compensation for the accident that was so obviously the semi driver’s fault. Unfortunately, he never managed to get us any kind of result. I don’t know if this was because he was a general practice lawyer and didn’t have the necessary experience to be an effective personal injury attorney, but at the time, our whole family felt that he just didn’t fight hard enough for us. The experience of that accident, and the failure of our attorney, have stuck with me throughout my life. After I got a little older, my father became a lawyer, and eventually I decided to follow in his footsteps. When you work as a personal injury attorney, the clients that seek you out are often in a horrible situation, crushed between the pain of their injuries and the mounting bills looming overhead. I saw firsthand how quickly someone else’s mistake can flip your life upside down, and the devastation it can wreak on people and their families. As a result, I’ve made it my personal mission to never let down a client like our own attorney did, and to fight with every tool at my disposal in order to secure the outcome you deserve.

shrank more and more, he had a premonition. He unbuckled his seatbelt, and, just as he was sliding over to the passenger’s seat and buckling in, the semi slammed headlong into the back of his truck. Shafts of lumber shattered the rear view mirror and speared the front engine. His vehicle hurtled forward into our own, and all of a sudden, we were careening out of control down the interstate. By the time I realized, dazed, what had happened, the nose of our car was crumpled against the guardrail. The sick smell of burnt rubber charged the air. Shards of metal and glass glinted everywhere I looked. I’ll spare you a catalog of my families’ injures, but needless to say, we were all in bad shape. I don’t remember much of the moments following the accident, but I do remember the ambulances
