Bell donates $25,000 to HGH’s mental health
HAWKESBURY | Bell Canada’s Let’s Talk Community Fund has contributed $25,000 to the Mental Health and Addictions De- partment (MHAD) of the Hawkesbury and District Hospital General Foundation (HGHF), to support new mental health programs that help combat anxiety and depression. The grant was presented during the Hawkesbury General Hospital (HGH) Radio- telethon on November 16, making the total funds raised during the event to $306,088. With this donation, the (MHAD) will be able to o!er programs such as Beating the Blues, a Cognitive Behavioural The- rapy (CBT) program and will help reduce the lengthy waiting list for people looking for assistance for mental health issues. The program helps people learn to cope with
anxiety and depression and o!ers support to family members. The MHAD of HGH o!ers a wide range of support for their clients, including Adult Mental Health, the Assertive Community Treatment Team, and an Addictions, Geria- tric-Psychiatry and Crisis Department. The Bell campaign has committed to more than $67 million to mental health care organizations to improve access to mental health care in communities across Canada. Through fundraising, the fund helps to reduce the stigma of mental health issues, increases access and care, and conducts research that will have great impact on the mental health of Canadians. The HGHF is one of almost 60 new programs supported by the initiative, helping people as well as their fami- ly and friends to live with mental illness.

The Grenville Craft Fair raised $1,500 to go toward !eld trips, activities and school equipment for the students of Grenville Elementary School. “It went very well,” said Tammy Hoare, one of the organizers of the fair. “Our Craft Fair is a wonderful com- munity event that usually takes place in the fall. There are many artisans and bak- ers that set up tables in our school. We had a diverse line up of homemade and handmade items. Vera Young, our Craft Fair organizer, did a wonderful job organiz- ing this event along with the GES Home and School Committee.” (DH)
