The new academic year has seen a record number of pupils remain in the cadets for the opportunities it offers outside the usual school day and the recent cohort of year 9’s can barely contain their enthusiasm in the compulsory Wednesday activity slot, the CCF advanced club on a Friday has had to be extended and extra staff brought in due to its popularity. Those more skillful cadets and a very excited Contingent Commander Major Hill were then guided to some brilliant spots and able to let loose much to their joy. The afternoon was on the water and was a good blend of challenge and fun by the cadets stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and raft building. Much fun was had jumping in and racing on Hawley Lake. The last day was a round robin of survival skills, this was led by ever reliable Gurkhas in the cadet training team. Survival is generally broken down into 4 sections: shelter, water, food and fire.
