2021 Senior Lawrentian

Netball

T he girls, as always, were excited about their forthcoming netball season. The calendar was full of fixtures for all age groups and those in the Sports Excellence Program had been working hard on their personal fitness and technical skills during the Michaelmas Term. When the school was eventually able to open, it was apparent that fulfilling fixtures with other schools was not going to be possible. We were therefore able to make full use of the time to work on the basics of the game from ball handling, positional skills, attack and defence, all whilst keeping the intensity as high as possible so that fitness was not lost. Kirby had their annual Cameron versus Courtney house match. It was wonderful to see and hear each and every member of Kirby house involved across three courts. The 1st VII managed to squeeze in a match versus Beech Grove. It was a hard fought contest, as it always is against schools that play netball for the whole year. The girls battled hard but unfortunately our fitness was the deciding factor after 60 minutes. Joanna Roberts was a sterling Captain, leading by example and scoring over half of our goals. This was not quite the netball season that the girls were looking forward to but, with plenty of internal matches, it gave opportunity to enjoy it as best we could during these peculiar times. 
