2021 Senior Lawrentian

Cricket boys & girls

D espite having many fixtures cancelled due to Covid-19 as well as poor weather, it was still a very successful year overall. We had plenty of fantastic individual achievements. Upper Sixth leaver and 1st XI captain, Joe McCaffrey, continued to represent Kent CCC 2nd XI and remains part of the Kent CCCAcademy. FellowUpper Sixth leaver, Kalea Moore, accepted a contract this summer to play for South East Stars as

well as the Northern Superchargers in the new format, ‘The Hundred’, which is a truly fantastic achievement. Having our pupils, especially in the lower end of the school, watch Kalea play cricket on television was extremely inspirational and undoubtedly will encourage our next generation of cricketers.

to be in the Top 100 Senior Schools in the country for a second consecutive year! This is an exceptional accolade for St Lawrence College, and one of which we should be very proud. A lot of hard work goes in to the cricket programme and it is fantastic that we are recognised nationally for what we do. I would like to thank the players, parents and coaches, without whom none of this would have been possible.

Our cricket programme overall was judged by Simon Hughes, Editor of ‘The Cricketer’,

FIRST XI CRICKET

The 1st XI had a good season and some excellent games, some of which went down to the last ball. After losing narrowly in the National T20 to Bedes School by 11 runs, the 1st XI went on a run to beat King’s Canterbury by 147 runs, Band of Brothers by 32 runs, secure a draw against the MCC and beat the Old Lawrentians by 22 runs. The squad was able to go into Cricket Week full of confidence which was needed as some tough matches were awaiting. The week started well with a 19 runs victory over Simon Langton GS with George Kidd (77) and Duncan Moore (52) scoring the bulk of the teams runs. This was followed up on Tuesday with a six wicket win against Langley Park School for Boys with spinners, Ollie Jordan-Smith, Joe McCaffrey and George Kidd taking eight of the opponent’s wickets. This was then followed by a captain’s knock of 42* by Joe to secure our second win
