GIRLS’ CRICKET G irls’ cricket has continued to thrive and I am delighted to report that there is a lot of talent coming up through the School. Across the year groups there were various wins throughout the season beating such schools as King’s Canterbury, Sevenoaks School and local rivals, Wellesley House. Although many fixtures were cancelled, the girls were brilliant in their approach to training and I am confident that this will snowball into next season. History was also made at SLC! We had our first ever girls Cricket Week which was run parallel to our traditional andwell establishedCricketWeek. The girls 1st XI played Forest School as well as Sevenoaks School and won both fixtures. Kalea Moore finished the week with an average of 61 with the bat and eight different bowlers took one or more wickets throughout the week which highlights the capabilities within the squad. George Kidd was awarded the Geoffrey Philpott Memorial Bat (as leading 1st XI run scorer) and Kalea Moore was not only awarded the same accolade for the 1st XI girls, but also had the new bat named after her in recognition of her achievements whilst being at SLC. With only two Upper Sixth leavers, I am confident that the girls will have another good season ahead of them. Next year there will be five SLC girls trialling for a place in one of the Kent CCC youth teams so there is, yet again, a lot of budding talent coming through the school. Next year’s Cricket Week will be held in the week commencing Monday 27th June and we intend to add one more fixture to the week for the girls. All support is welcome. Across all Senior teams we say farewell to many Upper Sixth pupils who have served us well for many years and we welcome new pupils who are just about to start their cricket journey. Hopefully next season will be more in line with normal seasons and we won’t have so many fixtures cancelled. I would like to thank all the coaches, pupils and parents for their continued efforts and support, especially throughout the last year.
