Corban Nichols is our Charlotte Conference Director!

After a few years of “turtling,” Corban has busted out of his shell, and will now lead the Charlotte conference team! If you haven’t yet read his blog about “Giving More Than You Get,” here’s an excerpt of what he has to say about his CHART journey:

I was a theatre kid in my young years. Perhaps you’ve been exposed to the types. Bold, loud, afflicted with a terrible case of youngest child syndrome. Somehow, I was annoyed with every other theatre kid I came in contact with immediately. Call it a deep-seated insecurity that we’ll talk about in a future blog. Either way, being surrounded by others whom I immediately perceived as theatre kids terrified me. I did what anyone in my position would have done—I turtled… …When I did return, I was determined to give it a shot. I had to have been wrong before, and I was going to push all of the chips into the center of the table. All in. The first person I ran into was on the Conference Team and was running the Registration station. It was the same person I connected with 4 years before. Many of you already know him. His name is James Frank. I summoned up the internal resolve to say hello and reintroduce myself, but I didn’t get the chance. He came up, said hi, and remembered me right away. Cue the upbeat soundtrack — is this serendipity?! This had to be a sign. Since then, James has become a close, personal friend. I’ve ditched the turtle shell and have decided to sport a new attitude. I’ve volunteered in many different ways now for multiple conferences and for a Regional Training Forum. It’s been a blast… …In my case, I’ve had the opportunity to partner with James as a member of his conference team in Seattle, where he was the Conference Director. Now, I am thrilled to be able to partner together once again as I’ll be the Conference Director for CHART 105 in Charlotte, with James being a newly elected member of CHART’s Board of Directors! I don’t believe either of us could have imagined this being a possibility back in 2018…There is a Prism of Possibilities that lies ahead…

Recognizing 3 Outstanding Individuals

What makes a best place to work? Kelly McCutcheon moderated this panel of leaders to unlock those answers. In a nutshell, here's what each brand had to say: Figure out what makes YOU a best brand, and focus on what makes you uniquely you. - Kelly McCutcheon, Whataburger Be real and communicate with people.

Left to right: CHART President Damian Hanft of Inspire Brands thanks Jesse Boehm of Buffalo Wild Wings, Tammy Calhoun of Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, and Braxton Luzier of Swingers – The Crazy Golf Club for their years on the CHART Board

They may have just left the CHART Board, but their impact will live on! We celebrate their dedication and accomplishments: Jesse served for three years in the appointed role of Education Strategist, overseeing the Hospitality Training Competencies Certificate Program. Under his leadership, virtual workshops were added as a significant no-cost CHART member benefit. He also grew the Master Facilitator roster and updated the content of the program. Tammy served for four years, and helped grow membership during the pandemic through CHART’s free Membership Access Program. Her oversight of the Regional Training Forums (RTFs) helped secure RTF directors in all major areas of the US, and resulted in dozens of virtual and in-person RTFs across the country. Braxton served for two years, and directed the CHART Austin Hospitality Training Conference, which drew more than 200 training pros who gathered to share ideas through a hackathon and high-impact educational sessions. With his oversight, membership grew to more than 650 this past year; the highest in over a decade.
