A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
On Tuesday this week students took part in Waldegrave Christmas Jumper Day to raise money for Save the Children. This coincided with a very festive Christmas lunch as Year 7 students enjoyed their meal and pulled crackers whilst listening to some classic Christmas songs. Donations can still be made to support Save the Children via ParentPay. This Thursday we held the end of term Celebration assembly where students were recognised for their achievements of this term - congratulations to everyone who received an award! The week finishes with the Winter Festival this evening - many congratulations to all our talented Year 7 stu- dents who are taking part. Well done to the Year 7 end of term Epraise award winners. The top 5 individual awards in reverse order went to: Dominique P (7FGC), Emma C (7PCO), Emilia B (7ESU), Sasha C (7PFO) and Mia B (7PFO) The top 3 tutor groups for Epraise are: 7PFO, 7PCO and 7SON We are also excited to share that Chloe C recently received two awards at the Sutton Music Festival - 1st place in the solo woodwind (Grade 5–6) category, and 2nd place in the 11 years and under category. Well done Chloe! Next Monday the year 7/8 football team play the league final against Grey Court, we wish them all good luck and hope they bring home the trophy! As it is the last week of term I would like students to ensure their lockers are left tidy over the break and they take home their PE kit. The Christmas fun continues next week, when Year 7 will experience their first Staff Pantomine on our last day of term. This is sure to be an experience they won’t forget. Oh no they won’t, oh yes they will! It has been a brilliant first term for Year 7, we are very impressed with how they have settled into school life at Waldegrave and engaged in lots of opportunities. I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable Christmas break and I look forward to seeing Year 7 back in school refreshed and excited for the Spring term on Monday 6th January.
MRS BASHFORD-HYNES, HEAD OF YEAR 7
‘Holes’ - Louis Sachar A teen boy, Stanley Yelnats, is sent to a Texas juvenile camp called Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. His punishment at the camp: dig holes, all day, every day. As he digs, Stanley discovers the mysteries of the camp and his family’s rich history, as well as making a few friends, including Zero, who he helps along the way. Overall, this is a great story for any age with a mix of humour and friendship (as well as a bit of social commentary). - Isabelle H, Y11 BOOK OF THE MONTH
