Prethodne nagrade za ženu godine ponele su Tejlor Svift, Kardi Bi, Bili Ajliš, Arijana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madona i Ledi Gaga... Previous Billboard Woman of the Year award winners include Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madonna and Lady Gaga... she drives past the home of the boy who left her, Ol- ivia wonders if he’s with the blonde who’s everything she’s not, stripping bear the vulnerable soul of a teen- age first love, and in such a way that some of her fans commented on how they cried over being left by a boy- friend that they don’t even have. Olivia confirmed that she’s here to stay with the fiery hit Good 4 U, which proved itself to be equal- ly pervasive, with a chorus that’s shouted, raging gui- tars and drums, only to go on to reveal the qualities of the world in which she lives with the classic indie rock track Brutal. Olivia says in the song that she's sick of being 17, that she'll cry if someone else tells her to en- joy her youth (“And I'm so sick of 17, Where's my fuck- ing teenage dream? If someone tells me one more time, “Enjoy your youth”, I'm gonna cry”). She then makes the point of a conclusion that every teenager reaches sooner or later, and quite frankly not only teenagers: “God, it's so brutal here” (“They say these are the gold- en years, But I wish I could disappear, Ego crush is so severe, God, it's brutal out here”). However, the most attractive aspect of her music is the fact that it has a rock'n'roll sound, without an ounce of the electronic, hip-hop and trap genres, thanks to the influence of her mother’s records alongside which she grew up, covering key female alternative rock figures of the ‘90s, from Alanis Morissette to PJ Harvey, and her most important role models: Taylor Swift and Lorde. The influence of strong women in music helped Oliv- ia form herself into a strong woman, confirming that the world desires precisely those kinds of role models, the best testimony to which is the already cult status achieved by someone as young as Billie Eilish. It thus isn’t peculiar that Sour, her debut album, became a global event at the end of May last year, prompting U.S. Pres- ident Joe Biden to invite her to the White House and

encourage her, as the “president” of teens worldwide, to get vaccinated against Covid-19. While she waits to clean up at the Grammys on 4 th April, with seven nominations already in the bag, Rodrigo is preparing for her Sour tour, which she is also launch- ing in April and which will lead her across America and Europe until the start of July. Though there’s no doubt that she could fill the biggest arenas, she’s mostly cho- sen smaller amphitheatres and concert halls… “I think It’s important not to skip steps in my career,” she says. “I’m just really excited to play these more intimate ven- ues and get to know my fans on a deeper, more person- al level… A really beautiful thing about songwriting is watching songs that are so personal to you go out in- to the world and kind of take on another life. So, per- forming the songs now is even more special than it was when I was writing them in my bedroom, because they now have so many other people’s stories intertwined within them, too. I’m really excited to experience that first-hand on tour.” Meanwhile, Billboard's Woman of the Year is al- ready laying the foundations of her next album. And this time around it will be a different process for Rod- rigo than it was when she was still a high school stu- dent and a Disney TV star… “I have a title for my next album and a few songs. It’s really exciting to think about the next world that’s coming up for me. I just love writing songs. I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself... It’s definite- ly a different experience writing a second album after having a debut that was so well received. I still write so much of my music in my bedroom though, and I don’t think that experience will ever change. Writing songs will hopefully always be an outlet for me to process my feelings before anything else,” says this fantastic girl, whose era has just begun.
