Their name is at stake and they seek to keep it unsullied. God’s Word Is Opposed to This Sin 2 Cor. 8:21 The teaching of the Scripture is for the purpose of promoting honesty, righteousness, and uprightness. The words of the prophets, the proverbs of the wise men, the precepts of the dis ciples, the ministry of the Saviour, all combine to impress upon the hearts of God’s people the need o f rendering to every man his rightful dues, and of giving honor to whom honor is due. Even the unsaved know that greed is wrong and that graft is punishable by law. They have this knowledge in their own hearts. Those who practice these things sin against their own conscience and the Word of God. Honesty Is God’s Path Titus 3:14 The new birth makes men honest. Those who come to Christ Jesus for salvation are saved from the mental leanings toward graft and greed which result in sinful practices. The call of God is a call to be like Christ. He sought no man’s silver or gold. He made no effort to obtain fame. Men o f God who are worthy of our confidence and trust can say with Samuel, “ Whose ox or ass have I taken?” The unselfish life, the humble spirit—-these are twins that accompany salvation. In many of our schools, the young people are taught that the Bible ac count of creation is false. The false philosophy of development by environ ment is substituted. Nothing that we know about in nature or in life ever has improved with age. Every known substance or animal or plant deterior ates with age. The teaching of evolu tion sends the student out into the world believing that he is an animal. Animals are only governed by their desires. Men’s desires are evil con tinually. He, therefore, recognizes no law except the law of “ escape.” There is no limit to the sinfulness this permits. Lewd Pictures and Questionable Stories Promote Crime Mark 4:24 The eye greatly affects the heart as Solomon said. The eye and the ear feed the passion for the wild life. By these two avenues wickedness is stirred up and evil desires are promoted. Many pictures and stories are developed for the express purpose of arousing the evil that is latent in the human heart. The seeds are already there. These things simply fan the flame and culti- The Teaching of “ Evolution” Promotes Crime Heb. 11:3

profit or honor by fair means or foul. The Word of God is the remedy for this sin. The Spirit of Christ is Opposed to This Sin Phil. 3:8 The Christian who is walking with God is not interested in graft or greed. His desire is to give freely, gladly, and constantly. He seeks the welfare o f others—not their possessions. His de sire is to be an example of honesty and righteousness. He seeks to bring a bless ing to those whom he contacts whether they be ruler or servant. He seeks to bring gain to others in their loss. Ho desires to promote the welfare of others so that he may win them for Christ. Christian Testimony Is Opposed Those who engage in selfishness and self-seeking can hardly expect to be recognized as Christians. Not many Christians are found in politics or in places o f leadership. Those who are in positions o f power usually are not oc cupied with God or the Bible or the ways of heaven. The courts are not called upon to investigate or punish Christians for graft or greed. Believers seek to honor the One who saved them, to adorn His doctrine, and to live as those who represent heaven’s principles. The natural human heart finds an outlet in sin and sinning. It is natural to do wrong. Children must be taught to do good and many of them never re ceive such teaching. There is a thrill in crime. It is the thrill of getting some thing for nothing and of giving an out let to wicked feelings and impulses with an endeavor to prevent detection. The human heart must express itself and often this is done by way of cruel ty and crime. Windows are broken, statues are destroyed, flower beds are trampled, banks are robbed. Such re bellion against law and order is just as an expression of the human heart. Crime Is Fostered by the Lack of a Family Altar Deut. 6:7 Godly parents usually rear godly children. Ungodly homes are breeding places for wickedness and evil. Our Lord knew this so He commanded His people to give diligent ■ attention to the Word of God. The Bible is the only known preventive of sin and wicked ness. It is the only remedy for a sinful heart. It is the only antidote for an evil mind. The Bible instilled in the hearts of boys and girls and of men and women always has proved to be the most effective prevention of crime. J U N E , 1949 to This Sin Rom. 12:17
