Lauren builds her business when her kids are at school or late in the evening when they’ve gone to bed. When she does have to miss an occasional event, it’s an exception rather than a common occurrence. Last month, the full blessing of Lauren’s time freedom became even more apparent as she dealt with health issues and the very unexpected death of her brother-in-law. “I wasn’t able to enroll the eight customers I usually enroll every month,” she says. “But we still had a lot of momentum. Everyone in my business kept working toward their goals, and that’s where this advancement came from.” Lauren says it’s a gift that her Melaleuca business gives her the flexibility to be there for her family when they need her. “If you ask my kids what I do for work, they probably have no idea,” she says. “There will come a time when they know that their mom works, but right now, they just know that I’m their mom and that I’m present for them. When Lauren Murphy was growing up, her mother would drop her off at a school program hours before classes began. At the end of the day, her mom would return to pick her up after most of the other kids had gone home. Lauren's mom wasn't neglectful; she was doing the best she could do given the demands of her career. Summers brought more of the same: Lauren would be sent off to summer camp, but she never knew any different. “My mom worked full time, and I don’t have any negative feelings about that,” Lauren says. “But my mom does. She tells me, ‘I would’ve done anything to be with my kids. You only get 18 years with them, and those years go by fast.’” Lauren doesn’t want to guilt-trip moms who have to go to the office every day; in fact, she used to be one of them. But for mothers who want the flexibility to be there for their kids and also provide an income, she wants them to know that it’s possible to have both. “Not only do I now make an income that exceeds what I made in corporate America,” she says, “but I also have the freedom to be and do what I want for my family. I’m the mom who never wants my kids to leave. I’m not a homeschool mom (nobody would
