On 9 th December, Air Serbia launched direct flights between Belgrade and Tianjin, the fourth largest city in the People’s Republic of China We’re flying to China! Directly! Air Serbia continues to expand

Due to current COVID-19 re- strictions, there will be one flight a week between the two cities – operating between Belgrade and Tianjin on Fridays – while the return flight from the lar- gest port city in northern China to the Serbian capital will operate on Sundays. Serbia’s national carrier is re-establishing direct flights to China after a break of 22 years, sin- ce October 2000, when the then JAT operated its last flight to Beijing. Air Serbia will initially be the on- ly European airline flying from Tia- njin, and one of the few Europe- an carriers to operate direct flights to China. An Airbus A330 from Air Serbia’s long-haul fleet will be de- ployed on the Belgrade-Tianjin rou- te, with an average flight time of 10 hours from Belgrade to Tianjin and 12 hours from Tianjin to Belgrade. Tickets for Belgrade-Tianjin flights are already available, with fares starting from €649 and €1,086 for a one-way and round-trip respecti- vely, including all charges. “Despite the still limited in- ternational air traffic with China and strict rules imposed since the outbreak of the coronavirus pan- demic, our airline has succeeded in obtaining all the necessary permits and completed all preparatory acti- vities, so that we can launch flights to Tianjin in December. Air Serbia is no stranger to China. We opera- ted dozens of special cargo flights in 2020, transporting hundreds of tons of medical devices and equ- ipment to Serbia. I am convinced that our direct service will help

boost the already strong economic and cultural relations between the two friendly countries. Our ambiti- ons with regard to flights to China do not end here. We hope that we will expand our network to ot- her strategically important cities in the near future, such as Beijing and Shanghai,” says Air Serbia CEO Ji- ri Marek. Tianjin has a population of 14 million and is located in northe- ast China, on the coast of the Bo- hai Sea, which is an extension of the Yellow Sea. The city is the ma- in port through which Beijing is su- pplied and represents the most im- portant port in northern China. A 117-km-long high-speed railway runs between Tianjin and Beijing, thus the commute between the two cities only takes about 30 mi- nutes. By launching a direct service to China, Air Serbia will ensure good connections via Belgrade to nume- rous destinations in its network, su- ch as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Ljublja- na, Valencia, Prague, Venice, Za- greb and other destinations throu- ghout Europe and across the wider Balkan region.
