MALIKA FAVRE, ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST SIGNIF- ICANT CONTEMPORARY IL- LUSTRATORS , is a guest of De- sign Week Novi Sad, which runs until 7 th October at the city’s Spens sports and business centre and will provide the audience with the op- portunity to hear her lecture en- titled “Me and You and Everyone We Know”. This French artist, who shifts the boundaries of contemporary il- lustration, arrives in Serbia from Barcelona, where she’s spent the last few years working and finding inspiration. Often described as ‘Pop Art meets Op Art’, Malika’s bold, minimalist style has become syn- onymous with the reinterpreting of the everyday and the ordinary. “The first conference I ever par- ticipated in was actually in Belgrade, in 2009, at Belgrade Design Week, while I was still working for Lon- don’s Airside studio. That’s why I’m very excited that I’m returning to get to know another city in Ser- bia. For Design Week Novi Sad, I’m traversing my career as an illustrator through the prism of the incredible people I’ve met. I believe that inter- personal relationships are the most important factor for a good career, and this lecture is meant to be an homage to everyone who helped me on that creative journey”, says Malika, who leads us – from fami- ly members to lifelong friends and chance encounters – on a creative journey that’s been deeply nurtured DESIGN WEEK Malika Favre in Novi Sad If you’ve seen an iPad advertisement or come across an issue of the New Yorker recently, it’s highly likely that you’ve already encountered the work of this famous illustrator

Malika’s recognisable style of richly coloured illustrations has also attracted clients like The New York- er, Montreux Jazz, Apple and Pen- guin Books, among many others. “I’m currently redesigning the entire family of covers of literary classics for American publisher Barnes & Noble. This project will last four years and will reinvigor- ate around 50 classics. I’ve been waiting for just such a project for a while and I’m truly excited that I will have my own personal library once it’s done,” says Malika.
