FIRST PLACE IN THE REGION BY FLIGHT NUMBERS AIR SERBIA CARRIED MORE THAN 400,000 PASSENGERS IN AUGUST The Serbian national airline transported in excess of 400,000 passengers through its Belgrade hub and airports in Niš and Kraljevo.
THIS TOTAL MARKS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF PASSENGERS tran- sported in August since the company began operations under its current name in 2013. The number of pas- sengers carried increased by 38 per cent compared to the same month of 2021, or by two per cent compa- red to the record-setting pre-pande- mic month of August 2019. Char- ter flights also achieved good results, with almost 90,000 passengers carried. In addition to charters, this August was also a month of major movement of diaspora from Serbia and the region, resulting in an increa- se in the total number of passengers carried on routes to Western Europe. The highest growth, of 290%, was re- corded on flights to Rome, followed by Milan with 224%, Stuttgart wi- th 208%, Dusseldorf with 140% and London with 129%. The Serbian national airline esti- mates that the number of passen- gers it carried in August, similar to Ju- ly, will have accounted for over 55 per cent of the total number of passen- gers who travelled through Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. “Last month we achieved first place in the Balkan region in terms of flights operated at a weekly level. Passengers recognise the benefits offered by our network of destinati-
ons and high flight frequency during the summer season, and they conti- nue to place their trust in us, for whi- ch we are immensely grateful. We are convinced that the trend of growth in passenger numbers on our com- pany’s flights will also continue in the coming period. All of that motivates us to continue improving our offer by expanding it with new, attractive de- stinations,” stated Maša Vasović, He- ad of Revenue Management at Air Serbia. The Serbian national airline ope- rated flights from 15 airports in co- untries of the former Yugoslavia this summer, which was only previously the case with its predecessor, JAT. The greatest frequency of Air Serbia flights in the region was to Tivat and Podgorica, followed by Ljubljana and Skopje, while fewer flights were ope- rated to Croatia and Bosnia and Her- zegovina. Growth of passenger traf- fic compared to the same month of last year was also observed on flights to Sofia (172%) and Bucharest (80%). The Balkan region, connecting Balkan countries and serving the mo- bility of their citizens, is exceptionally important to Air Serbia. Accordingly, the national airline actively participa- ted in the recent Belgrade event or- ganised as a part of the Open Bal- kan initiative.
