Vezirova česma Legendarna česma na Kalemegdanu sagrađena je 1576. godine po nalogu Mehmed-paše Sokolovića, velikog vezira u Osmanlijskom carstvu, koji je pore- klom bio Srbin iz Hercegovine. Kao jedna od prvih sa- zidanih javnih česmi u Beogradu, ova česma je ima- la veliki značaj za lokalno stanovništvo, a pretpostavlja se da je služila i za snabdevanje vodom džamije sul- tana Sulejmana, koja se nalazila u blizini. O nekadaš- njoj lepoti česme svedoče reči turskog putopisca Evli- je Čelebije iz 17. veka: „Dođi, moj Bože, ako želiš da na ovom svetu piješ s rajskog izvora“. Vezirova česma VIZIER’S FOUNTAIN This legendary Kalemegdan drinking fountain was constructed in 1576 at the behest of Mehmed Pasha Sokolović, a grand vizier of the Ottoman Empire who was originally a Serb from Herzegovina. As one of the first public drinking fountains to be erected in Belgrade, it was of huge importance to the local population and is also assumed to have served to supply water to the nearby mosque of Sultan Suleiman. Testifying to the former beauty of this fountain are the words of 17 th cen- tury Turkish explorer and travel writer Evliya Çelebi: “Come, my God, if you desire to drink from a heavenly spring in this world”
