From the President by Paul Miller, President, Board of Governors

week of May is huge for Seven Oaks tennis, as we are hosting the "Hit the Target" Member-Guest tournament, at the tennis pavilion. The range of abilities cover the waterfront all the way up to the Open division. Kudos to the tennis staff for all their hard work orchestrating this major event. Stop and catch some of the action any evening this week. There are several other events this month at the Club that I’d like to highlight. First, because of the overwhelming interest with respect to the Club’s Cinco de Mayo event, we have decided to move the event from the Oak Room and Oak Terrace to the Ballroom. This will allow more of our members to enjoy great Mexican Food, tasty margaritas, and guitarist James Thomas. Of course the highlight of May will be our Mother’s Day Brunch on the 14th. There are still a few reservations available at our 1pm seating, call the reception desk to get one before they are filled. On the Golf side, our Ladies Nine & Dine is on the 16th and the Men’s and Ladies Club Championship 2-day event is on May 20th and 21st.

Summer is right around the corner! The Member-Guest golf tournament was a huge success. The golf course was in

tremendous shape, the food was fantastic, and everyone had a great time. The entire Seven Oaks staff are to be commended for all their hard work leading up to and during the event. It was truly a team effort. Contributing to the success of the tournament was the addition of the Club’s new golf carts, equipped with GPS technology. It was really great to hear all the positive feedback from members and their guests over the two days, and the early review on the new bunker complex on the Oaks has been fantastic. The premium brand of the Club was enhanced thanks to the collective effort of everyone involved in the planning and execution of the tournament. The Club also hosted the ladies annual tennis Inter-Club Luncheon. The event had tremendous participation with over 75 tennis enthusiasts in attendance. The lunch was hosted on the Oak Terrace, and the weather was perfect! The first

Seven Oaks Book Club

Welcome Our Newest Members

The Seven Oaks Book Club meets each month to discuss books on a reading list which is selected by mutual consent of the Book Club members. All members of SOCC are invited to at - tend. Our selection for May… Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult & Jennifer Finney Boylan Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture- perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothora-

Austin & Jessica Pennington, Jeremy & Natalie Poulson, Justin & Shaunee Regan, Steven & Jennifer Wolf

cic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher - was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

And for just a short while, these new beginnings are exactly what Olivia and Lily need. Their paths cross when Asher falls for the new girl in school, and Lily can’t help but fall for him, too. With Ash, she feels happy for the first time. Yet at times, she wonders if she can trust him completely. Then one day, Olivia receives a phone call: Lily is dead, and Asher is being questioned by the police. Olivia is adamant that her son is innocent. But she would be lying if she didn’t acknowledge the flashes of his father’s temper in Ash, and as the case against him unfolds, she realizes he’s hidden more than he’s shared with her. Mad Honey is a riveting novel of suspense, an unforgettable love story, and a moving and powerful exploration of the secrets we keep and the risks we take in order to become ourselves. Our next meeting is Wednesday, May 24th at 11:30am Please email Cynthia Bailey at cbailey664@gmail.com to receive information on joining the meeting.

New Golf Cart Policies

With the arrival of our new Golf Cart Fleet, our Cart Policies have changed a bit. Here are a few things that we want everyone to know about our new carts: 1. Starting May 1st the new charges will be: $20 per cart for 18-holes; $10 per cart for 9-holes; an additional $10 for solo riders. 2. Keys will be handed out through the pro shop when your group checks in. Only 2 keys per foursome will be distributed. 3. The GPS on the carts will give you the approximate yardage to each of the hazards and pin locations thanks to the hard work of Tom Lipscomb and Patrick Reynier. • The Oaks bunker renovation has not been updated with the current mapping system, yardages may vary. The GPS system is touch-screen. • If you need any additional yardage you can simply touch the area you’d like distance to and it will be provided. 4. We will be implementing a geo-fence around areas that are restricted, in order to maintain the beauty of our course. • We are in the process of mapping the course to restrict access to areas that may have been used in the past. • If you find yourself in one of these designated areas, put the cart in reverse to return. • In order to receive a special needs flag, you must provide proof to the back office. 5. The green seated carts are currently slower than the grey seats. A technician will be out shortly to address the issue. 6. Private Cart Owners are not exempt from any Golf Cart restrictions on the course. Sanctions for Rules Violation(s) are as follows:

1. 2.

Verbal Warning Letter in the file

3. 4.

Fine

Loss of private cart privilege

Links News

by Tom Lipscomb, Director of Argonomy

We do need to ask one favor from all that wish to volunteer; Please RSVP! When we know in advance how many volunteers we are going to have, it allows us to be better organized. Don’t get me wrong, I will always be very happy to have walk up volunteers, but better planning allows us to cover more ground in a more efficient manner. If we have a few more volunteers at the next Social, we may be able to fill divots on the fairways and fix Ball Marks on greens during that one-hour time slot! Again, THANK YOU to all who came out to the Social and to those who practice filling your divots on a regular basis. I will keep you posted as to the date of our next Divot Social.

I want to thank everyone that volun- teered for our first Divot Social on April 11th. We had a great turn out - about

40 members - and it was a spectacular evening to fill divots. This is crazy, but in one hours’ time we were able to fill EIGHTEEN HOLES of divots! Afterwards we gathered on the Oak Terrace for another hour of free beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres. I also want to give a shout out to all the members who fill their divots as they make them. All the volun - teers commented on how many divots were already filled by every day golfing members. Thank you! I received many compliments about putting the Divot Social together and have been asked if I can organize more of these types of events. Absolute- ly! These events are great to not only ensure your golf course is always improving, but it’s nice to meet fellow members and strike up new friendships. We will let everyone know when we get the next one scheduled.
