03 Youth Apprenticeship & Registered Pre-Apprenticeship

What is Youth Apprenticeship?

Youth Apprenticeship is an apprenticeship program that starts when the apprentice is in high school or within 120 days (about 4 months) of graduation. The DOL categorizes Youth Apprentices as those 16-24 years old.

Why Choose Youth Apprenticeship?

Youth Apprenticeship gives young adults an opportunity to jump-start their chosen career paths while helping employers create a sustainable talent funnel.

Note: High School students that register in an apprenticeship program before graduation are eligible for a community college tuition waiver.

What is Registered Pre-Apprenticeship?

Pre-Apprenticeship is a program designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship Program. These short-term programs expand the participant’s career opportunities by merging essential instruction with elective work experience and optional wage structures. Pre-apprentices can work either full or part time. At the end of the program, both the sponsor and the pre-apprentice can sever ties or continue the relationship. If they choose to continue, the pre-apprentice moves into an apprenticeship program.

Why Invest in Registered Pre-Apprenticeship?

9 Streamline your recruitment process 9 Increase retention rates for registered apprenticeship participants 9 Pre-screen a diverse, qualified, job-ready apprentice pool 9 Align your pre-apprentices’ training with your apprenticeship standards

Testimonials

“I’m currently in my 3rd year of Starr’s electrical apprenticeship program. I have always wanted to find a career that is hands-on, practical, valuable, and respected. Electricity has become a necessary part of our lives. Yet, many of us have no idea how it works. I was inspired to understand how electricity works and how I can use it. The apprenticeship has helped me further my career because it has taught me how to effectively solve problems that occur in my field, and how to prevent future issues. Our field is all about solving problems. By being more efficient and effective, I can help each job be completed smoothly, on time, and with minimal issues.”

Scott Wanner, Starr Electric
