Ritam Srbije / Rhythm of Serbia
Rocked by the undulating waves of the Danube and protected by a fortress dating back to the 17 th century, Novi Sad was selected as the 2022 European Capital of Culture and thus became the first non-EU city to ever hold this title Planning a trip to Serbia? Don't miss out on Novi Sad, the city that was declared the 2019 European Youth Capital and the 2022 Euro- pean Capital of Culture (shifted from 2021 due to the pandemic). The pro- gramme narrative of the project “Novi Sad - European Capital of Culture” is based on the slogan “For New Bridg- es", which represents the idea of con- structing new ‘bridges’ of coopera- tion and exchange between artists and organisations from Novi Sad, and the rest of Serbia, and Europe’s culture scene. Four bridging programmes have been defined, named symbolically af- ter the city’s existing Danube bridges, but also the values that the city strives to develop in the context of its Euro- pean integration and the convictions that it nurtures and strives to share with all Europeans: Freedom, Rain- bow, Hope and Love. These bridges are divided into programme arches, a total of eight of which await us in 2022: Doček, Migrations, Future of Europe, Heroines, Fortress of Peace, the Danube Sea, Kaleidoscope of Cul- ture and Other? Europe. The artistic concept of the pro- ject is based on the core values of the European Union: human rights, mul- ticulturality, intercultural dialogue, environmental awareness and peace policies. The programme arches, i.e., thematic units, were developed by connecting these values with the his- tory, culture and identity of Novi Sad. Over the course of 2022, the city will present itself as the European Cap- ital of Culture through more than 1,500 cultural events and with 4,000 local, national and international art-
