Valencia is an ancient Spani- sh city, situated in the eastern part of the country on the Me- diterranean coast. The city has been conquered numero- us times over the centuries, falling into the hands of diffe- rent cultures: Roman, Muslim, Christian. Each period made its own mark on the city, and has left behind the amazing sights of Valencia that are ri- ghtfully a source of pride for the city. Here past and present intertwine, while the usual ur- ban hustle and bustle is mi- ssing. Medieval buildings, wi- th their secrets, paintings and unique architecture, stand si- de by side with modern works that inspire reverence. Beau- tiful beaches provide the per- fect setting to start or end yo- ur day. However, in addition to the many sights, we cho- se three for which the city is widely known - the Holy Grail, the paella and the silk lodge. Cathedral The beautiful Gothic Cathedral of the Virgin Mary is a symbol of the city and one of its ma- in attractions. It stands on a site once occupied by a tem- ple of the Roman goddess of the hunt Diana, which the Ro- mans erected in her hono- ur, and a later replaced with a mosque. It was in the 13th century that the Spaniards de- molished the mosque and la- id the foundations of today’s cathedral.
