improving the relationship between private and public cultural heritage. Large format works represent a spe- cific area of collecting practise. Large format artworks have mostly been re- served for public institutions, ensur- ing that they were once all but impossi- ble to reach. Collectors who do manage to secure a monumental work for their collection are confronted by problems associated with its maintenance and storage. Few collectors have managed to raise such works and form special exhibition spaces for such works, thus enabling the optimisation of the ex- perience of observing and displaying these artworks. This exhibition, which is on display at four exhibition spac- es of the ARTE Gallery in Belgrade, presents works that represent the fo- cal points of the collections to which they belong, while the accompanying publication contains more than 200 reproductions and a text describing the history of large format works in our region and beyond, together with information on the private collections that nurture this format.
ović, Petar Omčikus – these are just a handful of the more than 50 greats of Yugoslav modern and contempo- rary art whose works we will be able to enjoy in rarely seen large formats until 15 th June at four ARTE Gallery locations across Belgrade. Due to their large dimensions, but also the fact that many of these piec- es are held in private collections, the public hasn’t previously had an op- portunity to see the majority of works presented in this exhibition, while the selection doesn’t represent a system- atic presentation, but rather a themat- ic review of works in which the art- ists expressed their full potential to ensure the pieces achieved the status of museum masterpieces.
