Shady Laguna u Parizu

Izložba se organizuje u okviru projekta Ministarstva kulture i informisanja Srbije, Kulturnog centra Srbije u Parizu i Galerije Novembar iz Beograda This exhibition is being organised under the scope of a joint project of the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information, the Cultural Centre of Serbia in Paris and Belgrade’s November Gallery

Shady Laguna in Paris

The Shady Laguna exhi- bition encompasses Mari- ja Avramović’s watercol- ours and digital works that she’s created jointly with Sam Twidale. Marija has spent the past few years working more intensively with wa- tercolours, while she’s been dealing with digital art since 2017, when her and Sam founded the duo Xeno- angel. Both bodies of works are for- mally characterised by the unique artistry for which Marija Avram- ović is recognisable: bright and fresh colours, lightness and sub- worlds that constantly regenerate in front of observers. By utilising the aesthetics of video games and artificial intelligence, artists Marija Avramović and Sam Twiddale create

tlety, as well as a mild sense of in- completeness, with the character of an open-ended sketch. Shady Laguna tells us that fear is just a guide to action. This is not a par- alysing fear of being startled, but rather a mobilising fear of the sur- vival instinct. The future of our species will depend on its ability to adapt. Through their watercolours, and particularly their digital works, Marija and Sam suggest that both the present and the future depend on people’s ability to learn to co- exist, both with each other and with other species. Survival is a game to them – neither optimis- tic nor pessimistic. The game is driven by the curiosity to discov- er new worlds; worlds where co- existence among species is a con- dition of survival, where personal boundaries are tested and shifted, even the possible boundary of rec- onciling with the end of civilisa- tion as we know it.
