Terazije is home to buildings that are of high im- portance to the state, residential buildings, institu- tions of culture, hotels, hospitality venues, public monuments and parks. From the aspect of pro- tecting Belgrade’s cultural heritage, Terazije repre- sents a collection of the architectural achievements and works of the most prominent architects of Ser- bia and Yugoslavia: Aleksandar Bugarski, Jovan Il- kić, Milan Antonović, Milorad Ruvidić, Branko Tanazević, Nikola Nestorović, Danilo Vladisavljević, brothers Petar and Branko Krstić, Dragiša Brašovan, Vladeta Maksimović, Branko Petričić, Lavoslav Hor- vat, Branislav Marinković, Aleksej Brkić and Bog- dan Ignjatović. Terazije was declared a cultural asset in the year 2000 and is today protected as a spatial, cultural-historical unit. The organised walk through the history and ar- chitecture of Terazije held during Belgrade Interna- tional Architecture Week - BINA will be dedicated to cultural assets located in this area, from Terazi- je’s Palace Albania to Krsmanović House, but will also discuss the royal court complex that had the most intensive influence on the development of this part of the city. It will also address all urban chang- es in this area, the post-war Terazije, but also archi- tect Nikola Dobrović’s unrealised Terazije Terrace project.

Hotel Moskva Hotel Moskva is one of the buildings that shaped Terazije’s urban silhouette and is certainly the most photographed and rec- ognisable symbol of this part of the city. The plot on the corner of Terazije and Balkans- ka streets was initially bought by St. Peters- burg-based insurance company Rossiya for the purposes of constructing the build- ing that would house its company, and it was this Russian company that selected the design project of Jovan Ilkić, which he de- veloped in cooperation with Russian archi- tects. One of the most beautiful examples of art nouveau architecture took shape with ample use of decoration and new materi- als – Swedish granite, reinforced concrete, faience ceramics and marble. Hotel Moskva has been protected a cultural monument of great importance to Serbia since 1979.
