100 km južno od Beograda uživajte na Rudniku south of Belgrade enjoy the Rudnik mountain
RUDNIK Mount Rudnik is located about 100km south of Belgrade and dominates the region of Šumadija. It has eight peaks exceeding an elevation of 1,000 metres above sea level, the highest of which is Cvijić’s Peak (1,132m), which can be reached via marked trails in three and a half hours. A special adventure is considered as ascending to the Ostrvica, a steep volcanic peak that is home to the remains of a medieval fortress, which legend links to the demise of Irene Kantakouzene, aka Damned Jerina. Rudnik is also the source of Šumadija’s largest rivers, exceptional forest cover, natural health trails and it is close to major cities.
AVALA Avala is the closest mountain to Belgrade (the city’s public transport even extends to it) and it exceeds the height of 500 metres – the lower limit for the classification of a mountain – by just ten metres. The Monument to the Unknown Hero, a work of sculptor Ivan Meštrović, stands on the site of the former medieval
town of Žrnovo, while some of its other attractions include a Roman well, a 6 th century mining shaft and Avala Tower. There is also an observation point that provides one of the most beautiful views of Belgrade. It has more than 370 hectares of forests and its protected area is home to around 600 species of plants.
