As the proud successor of the tradition of the first national air- line, Air Serbia is celebrating 95 ye- ars since the establishing of Ae- roput, while Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is celebrating its 60 th anni- versary. A photography exhibition ill- ustrating the past, present and fu- ture of these two pillars of Serbian aviation was on display at the he- ad office of Air Serbia during June, only to be moved to Belgrade Niko- la Tesla Airport on 1 st July, where it wi- ll remain for the next three months, enabling visitors to learn about the history of aviation in Serbia. The official opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Construction, Tran- sport and Infrastructure of the Re- public of Serbia, Air Serbia and Bel- grade Airport, as well as business partners and media representati- ves. “In this year of great anniversa- ries, we particularly honour the vi- sionaries who founded the first do- mestic airline – Aeroput – all the way back in 1927. We are glad that we are joining forces with our par- tners from Belgrade Airport to cele- brate this important year for Serbian aviation, and we are convinced that all visitors, and our passengers, will enjoy this exhibition of photographs documenting all key periods in the operations of the national airline and Belgrade Airport. The exhibition re- presents symbolic testimony to the development from Aeroput, via Yu- goslav Airlines (JAT) and JAT Airways, to Air Serbia, which continues to ins- cribe chapters of history by confir-
ming its role as a regional leader in the aviation industry,” said Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek. In addition to the photography exhibition and the addition of a spe- cial emblem on its planes, Air Serbia is also celebrating its 95 th anniver- sary with a commemorative posta- ge stamp created in cooperation wi- th Post of Serbia. “These two remarkable milesto- nes for the Serbian aviation indu- stry are proof of how tradition and expertise can work successfully to- gether with modernisation, expan- sion and innovation even during very challenging times. Together, the na- tional airline and the airport will con- tinue to strengthen Belgrade’s po- sition as a well-connected regional hub, and to reaffirm this part of Eu- rope as a desirable destination,” sa- id Belgrade Airport CEO Franco- is Berisot. As the successor to Aeroput, Air Serbia ranks in the eighth place on the list of the world’s oldest airli- nes that are still operational. Aero- put’s inaugural CEO, and the person most responsible for it managing to be established despite numerous challenges, was Tadija Sondermajer, a pioneering elite Serbian military aviator and aeronautical engineer.
