with Jennifer Coolidge, aka Tanya, saying, “Whenev- er I stay at a White Lotus, I always have a memora- ble time. Always,” before we are given insight into an Italian holiday filled with adultery, drugs and poten- tial death, i.e., classic White Lotus. Can you watch the second season without having seen the first? Season two feels like it could be completely sepa- rated from the first season, given that the characters are mostly new, the location has changed and there’s no connection between the stories. However, watching the first season provides context to the chain’s hotels and the relationship between Tanya and Greg. Who stars in the series? “I don’t think you can credibly have all the Sea- son 1 guests on the same vacation again. But maybe it could be a Marvel Universe type thing, where some of them would come back,” said the show’s creator Mike White. Two guests that are definitely returning for sea- son two are Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya and her lov- er Greg, played by Jon Gries. The trailer showed the couple enjoying a ride on a Vespa, realising their Ital- ian holiday dream. Michael Imperioli plays Dominic Di Grasso, a man travelling with his elderly father and his son, a recent college graduate. The team is also joined by Aubrey Plaza in the role of a lady called Harper Spill- er, who is holidaying with her family and friends. Also appearing in the series are Tom Hollander, Haley Lu Richardson, F, Murray Abraham and Adam DiMarco, Leo Woodall, Theo James and Meghann Fahy as Daph- ne Babcock, who is holidaying with her husband Cam- eron (James) and another couple. What will we see? White revealed that the main conflicts in the sec- ond season are between lovers and friends, in particu- lar the rival characters of Megan Fahey and Aubrey Pla- za, who are jealous of other ladies’ husbands and bank accounts. White described the season as “a bedroom farce with teeth". He shifted away from confronting co- lonialism, which he said was the theme of season one. “I didn’t know that I had the gumption to wade into those waters again, knowing I was going to get sniper fire from every direction,” said White. "Maybe the clas- sic sexual politics, the naughty subversive stuff we’re getting into, will take the edge off a little bit from that.” “It’s still The White Lotus, but now it’s in Italy, so it has a totally different vibe and so, I think people are going to be surprised. So, buckle up for a bumpy ride of twists, turns, and more than a few titillating sur- prises,” said Aubrey Plaza. Mysterious nightmares Interestingly, during shooting for season two, the cast had recurring nightmares about a bald man stand- ing at the foot of their beds at the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Sicily. The hotel was built within the scope of a renovated convent near a Greek amphi- theatre, so this murder mystery series had a very real supernatural element during production.
