Šljiva kao inspiracija Plums as inspiration

Plum rakija, Šlji- vovica, is the brandy of choice for the people of Serbia to raise a toast, lau- gh, cry, rejoice and lament. Every rural household has always set aside šljivo- vica for special occasions. It is an in- dispensable guest, or actually a host, of every Serbian celebration. It is ser- ved in shot glasses or small čokanjčića bottles, and you simply mustn’t leave this plum-rich country without having at least tried a little of this good, ho- memade tipple. The traditional brand of all brands is the famous Šumadija tea. Here‘s how to prepare it. You need four tablespo- ons of sugar, 250ml of weak brandy and 100ml of water. Place the sugar in a metal pan or traditional coffee pot to caramelise, then remove from the he- at and immediately add the rakija and water. Return to the stove, bring to the boil and simmer until the sugar disso- lves. Serve warm, and exclusively in the company of good friends.

U svim predelima zapadne Srbi- je i Šumadije, šljiva je inspiracija za mnoga jela, od džema, pekmeza i kolača do slanih specijaliteta i raki- je. U Kraljevu se priprema toplo pre- djelo od šljiva sa slaninom, a u Bla- cu gulaš za suvim šljivama. Ali ma koliko hranila narod ovog kraja od pamtiveka, šljiva je ipak najpre za- vršavala u kazanu. Šljivovica je ra- kija kojom se u Srbiji nazdravlja, uz nju se smeje, plače, veseli, tuguje. Svako seosko domaćinstvo odvaj- kada je ostavljalo šljivovicu za spe- cijalne prilike. Ona je nezaobilazni gost, zapravo domaćin, svakog srp- skog slavlja. Služi se iz malih čaša, čokančića, a iz zemlje prebogate šljivom ne smete otići a da niste po- pili makar malo dobre domaće pre- pečenice.

Tradicionalni brend svih brendova je i poznati šumadijski čaj. Evo kako da ga pripremite. Potrebno vam je četi- ri kašike šećera, 250 ml meke rakije i 100 ml vode. U metalnu šerpicu ili džezvu stavite šećer da se karame- lizuje. Kada to postignete, skinite sa ringle, pa dodajte odmah rakiju i vo- du. Vratite na ringlu da prokuva i da se šećer rastopi. Služiti toplo, i to is- ključivo u društvu dobrih prijatelja.
