Pre svega moj solistički koncert u Karnegi Ho- lu, ali u Njujorku sam i prvi put u životu doživela ozbiljnu prirodnu nepogodu – uragan Sendi.
T he Prima Donna of the Opera Ensemble of the Belgrade National The- atre, Jadranka Jovano- vić, has spent a full 40 years winning over domestic and foreign audiences, who always seek extra tickets for her performances. It was back in 1981 that she made her Belgrade Opera debut, perform- ing in the Barber of Seville, and just three years later she had her first in- ternational engagement, at Milan’s famous La Scala. And throughout all these years, in accordance with a good habit and tradition dating back to the beginning of her career, she feels most comfortable with an airline ticket to some Air Serbia destination, wherever it flies, but perhaps most of all on the route to New York… You were among the first to purchase a ticket to New York when Air Serbia introduced direct flights. Why? Do you have some
special love for that city? “New York is a world metropo- lis to which I’m bound by special ar- tistic emotions. First and foremost, my solo concert at Carnegie Hall, but it was also in New York that I experienced my first ever serious natural disaster: Hurricane Sandy. However, when the first direct flight to New York was announced after a 24-year break, I was so delighted that I had to attend the ceremoni- al arrival of our Air Serbia at JFK Airport, which was magnificent.” So, perhaps it was your love for the national air- line that proved decisive? “My love for our airline is im- measurable and never brought into question. I was living in America at the moment when the last flight, then JAT’s, departed from New
